Usually when I am about to watch a Tom Cruise movie,I never get a different character.I always get Tom Cruise.Be it Minority Report,Mission Impossible or even Jack Reacher. So when I saw that Tom Cruise is in Collateral as a negative character,I really wanted to see what would it be like.Perhaps the only one movie which I have seen in which he is a completely different character was Tropic Thunder.
But I am glad to say that this movie was something else. The movie takes place in Las Vegas.Jamie Foxx is a cab driver who dreams of owning a limousine service one day.The first five minutes of the movie effectively help in informing us what his character is like.
Tom Cruise is Vincent.I do not want to get into detail as to what he does, since if I give away the plot, the movie will be half as effective.Foxx's character is asked by Vincent to work for him the whole night and the task is pretty simple-to make five stops. What could possibly go wrong? After hesitation on the driver's part, and an impressive deal made from Vincent's end,the main plot of the movie kickstarts.
Michael Mann's style of direction in the movie is impressive. There are two supporting actors, whom I will not name here, who provide good fun.Jamie Foxx as the unsuspecting cab driver probably gives one of his best performances. And Tom Cruise is not Tom Cruise for a change, but Vincent.Cruise should probably do more of such movies-because he pulls of his character impressively well.
Collateral is a movie which should be seen by everyone for not one but for many reasons.Specially if you are a Tom Cruise fan-it will leave you surprised and conveniently satisfied.
