Michael Bay is famous for his Transformer movies. But mostly not in a good way.I hated all three of them and so when I saw the trailer for this movie I knew I would hate the movie. That, obviously,is not fair.So after watching the movie,I must say,I found it decent enough.
Yes,I know that the movie is based on a true story and many things are made comical, which shows great disrespect towards the survivor(Victor Kershaw in the movie). In fact, the movie gets so far-fetched towards the end, that the words-"This is still a true story",pops up.The movie definitely has a lot of flaws. But the fact that I saw this movie with a mindset that it might be horrible might have helped me.
The one thing which however is undoubtedly amazing about the movie are three characters-that of Daniel Lugo(Mark Walhberg),Paul Doyle(Dwayne Johnson) and the detective Ed Dubois(Ed Harris). The chemistry between Mark Walhberg and Johnson is really well realised.Mark Walhberg, according to movie,is the second best thing about the movie. The first best thing?Ed Harris. He is given the role of a detective which we have seen him play really well in previous movies like A Beautiful Mind and Gone Baby Gone.Ed Harris steals the show here. The role seems like it was made for him.
Overall,Pain and Gain has many problems. It definitely could have been made way better. But if you go into this movie expecting it to be crap, you may just be left averagely satisfied which, according to me,is a tough feat to pull for a Michael Bay movie.
