The Beast Within (1981)
Agrees With....

14. The Beast Within. (1981) Nasty little 1980s B-movie. It left me uneasy originally. There's grizzly rape in the dark woods by some unseen beast, a dog killing (my childhood dog at the time was the same breed, irish setter), long scenes in a very dark barn cellar, realistic bones from buried corpses being dug up...but the worst is those TEETH! I dreamed about those awful TEETH. :( Now, little kids wear uglier teeth for trick or treating. What a little weenie I was!! :D This film is actually just a play on the Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde idea. It's not particularly good as a whole, but the locations are suitably eery, the makeup effects are actually kind of funny now, but the original feeling of dread I felt before isn't quite there anymore. That's a shame because the trailer is really good. I remember me and my friend at the time were easily sold on its horror filled "last 30 minutes" promise. 5/10 DeNiro is pretty good as the monster. The makeup work is first rate. |
