Hero: I was going to give this a seven because it was a bit long and drawn out but the cinematography was so gorgeous it just made you drool. The story was pretty good and I do like Jet Li very much. The fight scenes were a literal ballet and beautiful to watch. The lake scene was something else! I didn't expect the sad ending, but kind-of nice to see something different. If these people keep up the innovations in how they film I may have a celluloid heart attack with a smile on my face. I am awed.
Vera Drake: This was a terrific movie. I didn't expect it to be so heart-felt and Staunton really deserved the oscar nod. She was so meshed with the character and totally believable. I loved the whole supporting cast and the peek at fifties London was interesting as hell.
Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow: I loved the whole "look" of this film. It was interesting and a visual pleasure. The sci fi effects pulled at my geek heart strings and I liked the story very much. I simply can't say the same for the acting. Law & Paltrow just never seemed to gel. They appeared wooden and stunted and the whole thing was almost forced. Maybe I missed something but I couldn't wait to see Angelina Jolie - AND she produced the best acting in the whole thing. Too bad her role was so short on-screen.
Being Julia: This was a great film for Annette Bening. She was wonderful in it and I loved the fact that the whole movie was about her character. She got that accent down pretty darn good, well, I enjoyed it and she looked simply gorgeous. Bening so deserved the oscar nod also. Jeremy Irons was his usual dependable self - I enjoyed his character also. The rest of the cast worked very well together and all the characters were interesting. I would highly recommend a look see if you haven't. An enjoyable film and a bit hard to describe.
I also rented the Incredibles and I've reviewed it previously when I saw it in the theater and I loved it. I also picked it for the oscar and I was right! I wanted to rent it on dvd and see it again because it was just so much darn fun! I highly recommend a viewing whether you've seen it or not.
In all these movies I got to rent there were two, count em' - 2 stinkers. They were so bad they don't even rate a rating! I recommend you avoid both these rentals unless you smoke a big fat.... uhummm...
Open Water - the beginning and end were the only watchable parts of this movie. They should have cut out the middle 85 minutes and submitted this as a short (very short) film. Glad I didn't plunk down my dineros for this one!!!
I Love Huckabees - ok... what the hell was this movie about??? I swear I couldn't get past the first ten minutes. It made my head hurt and I was confused for three days! Was that Dustin Hoffman or Pacino in a bad wig??? I guess if I had done a large dose of acid I probably, most likely would have simply gushed about this movie. Hmmmmmm...... give me ten, no twenty years and we'll call it interpretive art! Ha!
Ok, there you have it, I'm all caught up. Yea, I know they're short and sweet but I did the best I could with little time. Hey, at least I'm caught up - whats your excuse????? See you on the flip side and keep showing those previews for Star Wars - CAN'T WAIT!!!! WHAHOO! Oops, sorry for letting my light saber show.
