First review today is for one of the worst movies ever made, Epic Movie, I will start off by saying that I Loved the first two Scary Movies and hated the last two, I also ejoyed Not Another Teen Movie and loathed Date Movie so it is no surprise that I would end up watching this movie even under bad cicumstances, I can safely say that there hasn't been a worse movie since Date Movie, if this movie classifies itself as a spoof then it seriously is retarded, this is one of the most unfunny movies to ever be released, I thought they went to the bottom of the barrel with Date Movie but this movie is so much worse, avoid at all costs.
The story revolves around four orphans who will need to go on an epic adventure and discover who they really are and what they are really meant for, they will discover the land of Gnarnia who is run by an evil woman known as The White Bitch, they will have to defeat her army and take down her to stop her from using a weapon of mass destruction... yes this movie is as bad as it sounds, the movie revolves around this plot and just chucks in random jokes about all Epic Movies, the film is just not good at all and it doesn't help the film that all the movies they parody aren't that fantastic either.
The acting in this movie is fucking hideous Kal Penn makes shitty choices like Harold And Kumar, Epic Movie, Malibu's Most Wanted and Van Wilder 2, he has had like two decent roles in his entire career and if he keeps making the wrong choices I'd be happy to see him fade away, Adam Campbell was in Date Movie... Nuff Said, Jayman Mays was great in Red Eye but here she makes a bad choice to try and further her career, Faune A. Chambers is probably the only leading actor I liked here but she still wasn't good either but probably the better of the four leading actors.
The supporting cast is a little more decent, Jennifer Coolidge as The White Bitch is bad but I love her in most other movies shes in so she doesn't fall far in my eyes, Tony Cox is an annoying little dwarf, Crispin Glover can do better, Carmen Electra is someone I like and here she was under used, Fred Willard deserves more, David Carradine can also do better, Kevin McDonald as Harry Potter is actually the most funniest thing in this movie and lastly Vince Vieluf was better in Rat Race.
Now onto what we've all been waiting for, what did I think of the gags, I think out of the entire hour and a half I laughed twice, I didn't find either hysterical but they were funny, these scenes were a pregnant Hermoine acting like a slag and a fat and blaoted mystique... the rest of the jokes were awful, like taking the piss out of Cribs and Gnarnia the G being silent for legal reasons, X-Men jokes were awful, the lion man fighting an albino but using a chinese stunt man, the jokes were all nothing special, they have either been done or they just aren't worth the parody.
Lastly Epic Movie isn't worth anymore of my time, this is one of the worst if not the ultimate worst in the spoof genre, I thought Date Movie was the bottom of the barrel but this movie takes the cake, all the jokes are lame, resorting to methods of copying someones every word and not just once or twice but the entire film, this movie just is simply bad... the guys writing and directing these films should be murdered for the crime they have commited against the spoof genre, long live the classics and down with these two guys because I am over there brand of twelve year old humor.
Second review this morning is for the comedy Employee Of The Month, I really thought I'd hate this movie when I borrowed it, I was expecting some of the worst in this movie but after watching Epic Movie this movie felt like comedy genius, this movie was great in comparison and I believe that's why I enjoyed it so much, thank goodness I saw something so horrible before hand because Employee Of The Month is quite a funny little film, it felt like it was in the tradition of the awesome Waiting but with less gross out humor and more heart.
Employee Of The Month is about Zack, he is a slacker who doesn't do much, he is a box boy at a local bulk buying supermarket, when Amy starts working there he promises to get his act together and fly straight, he also intends to take down the store asshole in the form of Vince, Vince is on a record to win Employee Of The Month eighteen months in a row but Zack wont let that happen and all hell breaks lose, will he be able to take down Vince or will vince win eighteen months in a row.
The acting in this movie was highly suprising, I love Dane Cook, this guy is a good actor and has so much on screen presence it makes the movie worth watching, he is pretty good at stand up comedy as well, Dax Shepard plays a good asshole and he delivers the goods in this movie, I think he is better outside Punked and lastly Jessica Simpson, poor Jessica Simpson this girl cops so much shit for being a dumb shit, but I will say this at least she has more class and dignity then Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson isn't bad in this movie, she isn't in it enough for her to steal the show but give a good supporting performance that is suited for her, she plays the cute girl who is low key and that's exactly what she delivers... A very low key performance from her that doesn't steal anything away from the film.
The supporting cast is also not bad, I found Andy Dick funny.... What did I just say??? Yes you heard me right I actually laughed with Andy Dick and not at him, Tim Bagley was great as the gay like Manager, Brian George as the Indian staff member was great, he wasn't the typical Indiana character but a wise one, which I really liked, Efren Ramirez as a follower wasn't that funny just like his lame performance in Napoleon Dynamite and lastly Harland Williams is the shit, this guy is so funny I couldn't stop laughing and also look out for Eva Longoria in a deleted scene as a hot chick who later becomes a blob.
This movie I'm going to compare to waiting, it has the exact same feel as that movie, except the only differences are it is in a Shopping Mall instead of a family diner and it is more low key in it's sexual situations, Waiting was a funny and very foul little film that delivered everything in a dirty nature where this movie tends to play the comedy more low key, there isn't really anything to gross or disgusting, it plays the card of being nasty to your co-workers in a deceitful manor and for that I enjoyed it because it did vary from that film.
Employee Of The Month also has one other major enjoyment factor and that is it's heart, even though the movie is filled with nasty and vindictive characters it still retains a major amount of heart, the love story plot in the middle of the film makes for an enjoyable one, it gives the film that extra bit of heart that Waiting didn't have and I was suprised by that fact, Jessica Simpson suprisingly lends this film it's heart and when I said low key thats what she gives and it gives the film a little heart.
Lastly Employee Of The Month is a decent comedy, I was highly suprised that I enjoyed this film, I was expecting a piece of shit and was suprised to find that I really really enjoy it, it has some dull and unfunny moments but it can't drag down the fact that it has strong leading actors and a supporting cast that deliver the comedic goods, I'd recommend if you like stuff like Clerks and Waiting but don't expect them to be as in your face as both of those films, still a decent watch... Don't let Jessica Simpson scare you away because she really isn't that bad.
