    :p
Welcome to my little rotten tomato garden!

I'm a Weyrdbird here and there. I rant about various things. mostly games and movies and things I like. And controversy. And life. And stuff. This journal and a bunch of lists are under construction.

I'm a media junkie. It started with television. I blame Sesame Street and Scooby-Doo. Movies, music, videos, computers....so many games and topics, so little time.........

The last film I saw was Tokyo Eyes, and the last game I played was Resident Evil :Outbreak in Offline Mode. I *hate* those fargin' neptune sharks, almost as much as much as the fact that Capcom didn't bother to include interplayer communication that isn't canned and menued in the Online Mode. But what the heck, Siren (Forbidden Siren to those outside the US) is out, and will hopefully make up for it. Otherwise RE Outbreak is more of the same in a whole new way. They took the standard RE stuff and threw it into the Crap...errr.....Capcom version of the RockStar game style....sort of.

The zombies and lickers are back, and there are a few new monsters thrown into the Umbrella moster lexicon. And the usual variety Tyrant style boss. Once you adjust to the new system look and the stupidity of your fellow playerAI characters in terms of decision making it's more of the usual running and puzzle solving. No rocket launcher though. You have to tough it out with acid rounds. It's survival, but you come away feeling good because blasting zombies and whomping deep one style mutant hunter frog ass kicks butt. It's dark, yeah, but you survive and feel good at the end, even when the neverending To Be Continued......flashes on the screen. But is it any *good*, you ask? Of course, or I wouldn't be so annoyed about the fargin' sharks. Where's Quint when you need him?:) If you have no idea who that is, rent JAWS sometime.

Anyone who wants real brutality with no cheat options should go play Manhunt. Why the game hasn't caused mass conniptions in the censorship division is beyond me. I guess if it were a scumbag killing cops instead for the pleasure of a snuff film director it would bring out the raging apoplexy of the masses. Or if the killer was a black man. This is RockStar's masterpiece, and it's NOT pretty. If you are a parent who is dumb enough to let your child play this game without knowing what the hell it is about, you are a grade A MORON. And if your kids are underage (under 17) and you are letting them play this M rated (NC 17+ last time I checked) rated game, you have issues. You're buying a game for your (possibly underage) child that clearly has a MATURE RATING ON THE BOX. It's put there for a REASON. It's that big letter M on the FRONT COVER with the ESRB under it. Yes, that one. It's there to tell YOU, the potential buyer/parent/whatever about the content, and it allows you to make an informed choice. It's that little choice word that seems to be missing from thought these days. And responsibility seems absent from vocabulary as well. I can't see yelling about the price of it if you already bought it and didn't pay attention.

Yeah that was a bad segue /connection of RE to RockStar, but I couldn't think of anything else to write about, and there is so much silliness going on bout games sometimes it's crazy. But then I stayed up far too late finishing Final Fantasy X months ago.......

If you think about it, that X *could* have more of an adult inference, if the series wasn't already known for being so very platonic when it comes to love and relationships. That doesn't stop the fanfic writers, however:)........

So there's my little welcome rant:)!

Hope I didn't bore you to death.

    Only 3 More Weeks.........

    Posted on 04/24/04 01:57 PM | Last edited on 04/24/04 01:47 PM

:rotten: and no more Saturday class!!

I'm going to school to be a Medical Administration Assistant, and I'm about to finish my first year! Only one more year to go! Finals are due in three more weeks. I think I am ready (sort of). This year was the new stuff, this fall it's going to be what is left of that plus the state requirement for basic education rock pile.

This summer it looks like I might actually get to watch a few more movies than I have this semester, So many movies, so little time........

    Tokyo Godfathers

    Posted on 04/27/04 06:54 AM | Last edited on 04/27/04 06:23 AM

    :fresh:

    This film is a gem.

Three homeless people, a drag queen, a drunk, and a runaway find an abandoned baby on Christmas Eve. the film is the record of their effort to locate the parents of the child. The group travels through Tokyo as a series of miraculous, not-so-miraculous, and interesting events occur. The baby, named Kiyoko by the trio, becomes the focal point of an interconnective story involving birth, death, life, sorrow, happiness and fate.

The film is refreshing for a Christmas story, and doesn't become weighed down by too much schmaltz or violent action. The film blends magical elements hard moments of reality for the homeless. Each character faces a moment of truth at some point, which helps to keep the audience engaged. You want to know what happens to these characters, and if they will succeed in their quest, or not.

I don't like the way the list system works very much. Too black and white, no way to write your own category. Too much Best/Worst. I'm going to have to overhaul the ratings bit, and I've only had this journal 3 or 4 days. go figure.

    Two Bad Movies

    Posted on 04/28/04 04:46 PM | Last edited on 04/28/04 04:15 PM

    :rotten: :o

A trend has developed of late when I rent Asian films without an English blurb on the back. They turn out to be porn. Or porn like. Imp, was made in 1999. I believe to be Korean, or possibly Malaysian. It's bad by pr0n standards because it tries to have a coherent plot. I thought pr0n wasn't supposed to.It has sex scenes that don't help this grade Z (and I mean *Z*) film at all. When I read horror on the box, I at least expect to get something like that.
It wasn't. Absolute 0. I couldn't even be offended by the porn. It was much too vanilla and so cliche it was painful. Avoid. Like the Plague. Bad Bondage Anime is easier to sit through than this. Even the lamest part of House Of 1,000 corpses is less lame (for some of you) than this. If you are subjected to this and sit through it all the way, I hope you didn't buy it or pay too much to rent it. 99 cents is almost too much for this waste of a cd rom disc.

The Soul Guardians is a south Korean film (Toemarok) directed by Kwang-Chun Park. In this movie, the child survivor of a suicidal satanic cult grows up to have strange visions as an adult and a group of heroes must defend her from the forces of darkness to prevent the birth of the Antichrist. Or something like that. I give it 2 whole stars because the film ran like a graphic novel version of a manga comic. And there's an animated corpse that is a complete ripoff of the original Tyrant in Resident Evil 2. And a priest who wanted to be in The Exorcist. If Pazuzu went up against this bunch he'd be running the show by scene 2, because none of them have that much oomph. I liked the heroine of the story, the rest of the charaters were just flat. And the poor translations didn't help matters. Sometimes they can add a high comedy element. This film doesn't have one.

Tonight I'm watching Prime Suspect 4, which I know is going to be lots better than these hounds, and then I am going to let my wonderful Video Store know they have another one for the porn rack. *GAG*

Hey, thanks for reading! Maybe if I'm lucky, I'll have a solid fan base of five by the end of the year :) Oh, and you can stop waiting. I've added another segment to my story. Take care.

The tulip bulbs and daffodils are up! SNOW SEASON IS OVER!! One would have thought that. I guess not.

This has NOT been amusing. How the heck my RT mail wound up in the spamkill file I dunno, but I lost my password and have been waiting for the new one for 7 DAYS !! AUGH! Talk about annoyance!

Not as annoyingly bad as Running On Karma was, however. It wins the failed comedian award for the silliest premise for an action movie that couldn't. For this month, anyway:D. An ex-monk turned stripper with a body by the gym from hell helps a rookie cop (who I swear looks all of 16) with criminal matters and her karma. Not because he wants to,but because he's forced to. He sees pre-dead people.:rotten: Or rather, the person is going to die and he knows what their karma is , which is why this happens. Bhuddist teaching indicates such a person is quite clearly deranged. They also don't believe in re-incarnation. Right. Explain to me what the movie Kundun was *about*. Explain the Dalai Lama:D. But I digress. If this was supposed to be a comedy, it failed on every single level. I'd rather watch Ah-nault talk about Cahs.

So I am back. For now.

    Rain, Rain, Go Away!!

    Posted on 05/25/04 05:41 PM | Last edited on 05/25/04 05:33 PM

    :rotten: Ack!

I went to return my DVDs this morning to find Ye Wonderful Store closed until further notice! We've had rain for nearly 4 days straight and a lot of places had flooding problems, this one severely. This happened to the same store 11 years ago almost to the week if I recall correctly. The units in the ame building also had extensive water damage. So no reviews from me for a while:( !

    WORST>FILM>EVER

    Posted on 06/03/04 08:30 PM | Last edited on 06/03/04 08:13 PM

    :o

Over the years I have sat through odd, strange, pretentious, offensive and downright ugly films on the pretext that I have to see if it can possibly get any worse:D. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present for you my scathing review of the worst film of the decade, possibly the millenium. As far as my life goes anyway.

This film is horrible. From start to finish this is, bar none, the worst waste of celluloid in terms of a disaster film that I have ever seen. And I have seen some bad films that I appreciate in a cult manner. The only thing remotely worth mentioning is the ridiculous, overblown CGI weather sequences, none of which were realistic. The party or parties responsible for the script need to be bitch slapped, and bitch slapped *hard*. People worked hard to produce this massive dung heap. They earned money by appearing in it. I won't say acting because the characters were worthless stick figures trapped in a world of bad ideas, writing and oddly amazing special effects hell. Dennis Quaid was nondescript as he always is. I have been unable to remember any character he has ever played until I am reminded somehow that he was in something I have seen. I was in tears from laughter at the end, which was so idiotic I can't even begin to verbalize it. I think other real critics have said far more than necessary about this festering tax writeoff, which I think the IRS should question to prevent regurgitation. I have no idea who the other people in the film were and I don't care. I didn't stay for the credits. The director should be barred from the Raspberries. This is that bad. And if I were the cast I would claim that it was my stunt double who appeared as I was in my dressing room dying from embarrassment.

If I hadn't recieved the special student night rate I would have demanded my money back even at the regular student night rate. And I saw it in a theater. GAH!

And now for no reason at all-JEFF BUCKLEY! :D

Well I heard there was a secret chord
that David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do ya?
Well it goes like this :
The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift
    The baffled king composing Hallelujah

    Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah...

Well your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya
And she tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
But from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

    Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah...

(Yeah but) Baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor, (You know)
I used to live alone before I knew ya
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
But love is not some victory march
    It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

    Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah...

Well there was a time when you let me know
    What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me do ya
But remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath you drew was Hallelujah

    Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah

    Hallelujah...

    [Instrumental]

Oh Mother I can feel the soil falling over my head
And as I climb into an empty bed
    Oh well, enough said?
    I know it?s over, still I cling
I don?t know where else I can go.
    Oh well?
Oh mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
    (oh?)

    Maybe there's a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya
It's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
    It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

    Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah?
    Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelu...
    Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah

    Hallelujah... Hallelujah?

    {Goodnight everybody, thank you so much}

    -Jeff Buckley/Hallelujah
