Posted on 7/25/05 at 10:52 AM TYPICAL NEIL SIMON HUMOR, THIS IS A VERY GOOD COMEDY, NICELY ACTED BY MATTHEW BRODERICK AND JASON ROBARDS. NICELY WRITTEN. MARSHA MASON JUST NEVER HAS APPEALED TO ME.

I have always liked Mason particularly in neil Simon's Only When I Laugh. It seems as if she has never found that defining role.

To me, Marsha Mason always plays bitches. A single mom with a child, wise cracking, abrasive and sarcastic. Like this and The Goodbye Girl etc. She just is annoying and nasty to me. I felt she nearly ruined The Goodbye Girl. She was such a demanding bitch in that. In the remake of The Goodbye girl, the lead female character is much more subdued.
