Due to being very busy at school and other things, as well as the fact that I'm going for Florida for a while, and because I've lost general interst in RT at the moment, I'm going on a bit of a hiatus from RT for a bit.
I'll be back, and do not worry, I have not abandoned the top 50 list Lord Sidious and I set out to make. It simply won't be finished as fast as we had intended, sorry.
Well, I predicted 12 correctly! Not bad...
Hmm, thoughts on what happened:
I'm a bit disappointed with what happened to Children of Men and Pan's Labyrinth. Pan's stole cinematography from Children and then Pan's lost it's deserving best foreign film...I wish they would have given Children at least that one award, and while The Lives of Others was good, Pan's was easily better.
There were a couple other smaller surprises, like Arkin winning for supporting actor, but when it came to the actors, director and picture, it went down just as I thought it would.
All I can say is I didn't think The Departed was the best picture of the year, and honestly personally thought Greengrass was the best director...but Scorsese winning for The Departed, and The Departed winning itself is still a really happy moment, and I'm glad he got it for The Departed instead of Gangs of New York or The Aviator, as this was his best movie since Goodfellas. It's nice to see that Scorsese won't go the way of Kubrick. Congratulations Marty. Also nice to see he was moved to tears when Thema Schoonmaker, his long time friend and just as long time collaborator, won for editing.
Yeah, it's happening again where I can't post on RT. Firefox loads the entire page EXCEPT for the frame where you type. For some reason, journals work, but RT is not letting me do it.
What should I do?
And just for the record, I hate computers. Yes, I spend all my time on them, but when they start just not...working...like right now, I really start to think I should just buy a PS3. I'm having a looooot of trouble with my computer right now thanks to the lovely Rogers Communications (my stupid ISP) who decided it would be funny to throttle my internet connection. This means no games, no downloads, no torrents. If Rogers was a person, I'd probably beat up his children.
Considering the computer I am on now can barely run games that came out four years ago, and has a hard time running...Photoshop...I decided to invest in a new one. I haven't got it yet, but it should be here by Friday, or maybe Monday. Here is what I got:
Intel Dual Core 940 3.2 4 Mb cache (is being overclocked 4.1Ghz x2)
BFG 7900 GTX OC 512 MB PCI express Video Card
1 Gig 677Mhz Ram 2 X 512mb (going to upgrade to 2GB later on)
Asus P5WD2-E Premium Motherboard
Solid Copper Zalman CPU heatsink and Fan
250 Gig SATA 16MB Cache Hard Drive
The guy I bought this from gave me a great deal. He gave it for $1341.00 Canadian Dollars, which is about $800+ off what it would normally have cost. He said this machine will handle anything, so I look forward to some tender loving gaming with Oblivion, Battlefield 2 and F.E.A.R. all on max resolutions. Does anyone know any other graphic intense games I could use to test out my new system when it arrives?
I was mugged today - again
Beware of men like these: they may look like pirates, but they are much worse: they work for the government.
It happens nearly every week now. And it's not a scagly looking 50 year old alcoholic who wants my wallet and watch; it's the Canadian Government, and they want my money. At least they don't stab me, but maybe that will be in the future.
You see I import all my DVDs. Prices in Canada are simply massively inflated. Even with the conversion rate and additional shipping, I still save money. However, the sneaky Men in Suits decided that they won't have any of this. Oh no, not at all. They decided to open up all packages crossing the border and hold them ransom. "If you ever want to see your DVDs again, you'll pay me x amount of money. And I want exact change!"
You see, exporters have to mark how much value is contained inside a box. The Customs thugs look at this and charge 15% of that. This isn't as bad as it might sound, as that is the standard tax rate in Ontario, but what really gets me is that they blatantly charge an addition $5 on top of that, as a sort of flat fee for their generous 'service' to me, as if I want them to open my things and demand money.
Because of this, every time I get a good deal on the net, I actually am not. In fact, sometimes after Customs Duties I pay more than the items without the sale. It's ridiculous. And you can't even get the importer to mark a package as only $10 or 'just a gift' anymore. You used to, but now I hear from an 'insider' (the lady at the post office), that the rednecks over at Customs actually disregard what packages say the value is. They just grossly over estimate. "Argggg matey! I spy a CRITERION. I bet this thing's worth...arg...SEVENTY DOLLARGGS!"
There is a way to appeal taxes, but on the address you have to send the form to it is some obscure office in a suburb of Toronto and it says something like "Building 4, Floor 15, Room 351". You just know they stuck a penny pinching old man with thin wired glasses in there and instructed him to come in at 9, deny all appeals, take an hour lunch break, deny all appeals, and then go home at 5.
Is this blatant thievery or what? And it's all sanctioned by the Canadian Government. No wonder they have the money to waste on experimental helicopters and billion dollar Olympic stadiums.
This video says it all: Canadian Tax collection
Oh and this happens to mark my 200th Journal Entry. Yay!

Yes that's right. I'm angry - and in pain. I had to get braces because of some dental surgery gone wrong (long story) and let me tell you, they hurt. I've only had them a day but they are killing me.
To add to my pain and anguish, I went to write my drivers test today. But guess what? If you laminated your Birth Certificate then it is void. Wellll it would have been nice if during my 16 years of using that card someone had told us you can't do that. So I now I have to spent a bunch of money and wait for the government to process and ship a new one before I can even think of writing my drivers test.
So to easy the pain and potentially violance inducing anger, I bought stuff. Lots of stuff:
And I bought lots of books with my Chapters gift card:
So how'd I do?
Good Night, And Good Luck
Paths of Glory
A History of Violence
The Picture of Dorain Grey
A Scanner Darkly
In Cold Blood
