These were both genuinely great movies that only got better as I reflected on them. Of course they were completely ignored by Oscar time.

well [b]The Prestige[/b] did get two nominations for Art Direction and Cinematography, which was two more than it was expected to get. not a huge lot of love, but at least some love.

Yeah, technical stuff. I just find it disappointing that a major Hollywood movie with an A-list cast and a well-liked director (a prestige movie, even) can get shut out of the major categories while those nominations go to what strikes me as much more pedestrian, but typically Oscar-ish, fare.

that's just how it is, and always has been (or at least been in the last 25-30 years).. so i don't think it's something to even be bothered by.
