Wow, an incredibly foolish movie critic; how unusual.
To get some idea as to just how badly this guy misses the boat, read the first 20 or so pages of this essay (PDF) by author, Robert Meakin (or all of it; it's f'ing brilliant) in which he studies The Thing's characters. His analysis is absolutely spot-on and although I've seen the movie probably a dozen times, I was never so conscious as to how extremely skillfully and vividly these characters are drawn (I was however, aware of how expertly played they were by the gifted acting team).
Geoff Andrew, movie opinion guy, is a numbskull or most charitably, wasn't terribly interested in reviewing this film. I mean, as a professional movie critic, how could he have possibly missed the ingenious nuances of Kurt Russell's McCready?
"Sub-Eastwood?" Try sub-Ebert idiocy.
