Showing 1 - 1 of 1 Movie Blogs
So I'm listening to the audio book, and wouldn't you know? I open the New York Times to see two separate, relevant articles in the last three days. The first was about the Opus Dei, a small Roman Catholic sect that, as the book describes, has its headquarters in New York, has its own bishop, and does have several members who flagellate themselves and wear the barbed leather doohicky round their thigh.
The second article describes a website where dissenters of the book's message can log in to vent their spleen. If I were Sony Pictures, I would post that website address everywhere I could on the 'Net, since nothing sells a movie like controversy. For example, the film version of "Jesus Christ Superstar" had Chrisitians everywhere picketing the theatres it played in. This led to curiosity, which lead to big BO.
Second example: Last Temptation of Christ, actually contains a variation on Code's theme, which stated that Jesus and Mary Magdalene did some serious snarling. When it came out, the same thing happened- pickets and protests, followed by curiosity and lots more revenue than this supposed art-house film should have made.
So I say set up a bunch of websites where the religious faithful can log on and complain about the heresy that is about to be perpetrated in America which, like the weather here, no one can do anything about.
