Greetings, felicitations, and welcome to my movie journal! As my sticky entry, the next few lines will tell you everything you need to know.
First, I only write movie reviews here - no rants about life in general, no reviews of music, games, or anything else.
Second, I always write reviews immediately after I've seen the film, within a day or two at most. I don't try to go back and archive everything I've ever seen based on my blurry memories.
Third, these entries are as detailed and accurate as I can make them. Each one ends with my overall feeling and an image from the film.
Fourth, I am a purist. Though I make no distinction between films seen in theaters, on DVD, or on TV, I only watch original, unedited, commercial-free versions, and I watch each film in entirety before reviewing it.
Fifth and finally, my ratings system is as follows:
:fresh: 10/10: One of the best films ever made. A rarely bestowed honor.
:fresh: 9/10: A favorite film, or one that fit the mood I was in when I was watching it.
:fresh: 8/10: Given to a film that succeeded in many ways (had exceptional plot, characters, acting, humor, etc.) but perhaps had a few drawbacks.
:fresh: 7/10: Given to good genre films, predictable but enjoyable ones, and also to quirky films that I didn't quite understand, but still liked.
:fresh: 6/10: A film with more good aspects than bad, but just barely.
:rotten: 5/10: A film will be given this rating for one of two reasons: either I felt neutral about it, or I was very conflicted/divided over it.
:rotten: 4/10: More bad than good, but just barely. Subpar genre flicks get this rating.
:rotten: 3/10: A generally bad film with good scenes or actors to make it watcheable.
:rotten: 2/10: Given to disappointing films, ones with good premises but many failings.
:rotten: 1/10: A film that had a single redeeming grace (one great scene or actor, perhaps) and nothing else. Occasionally given to films that I've seen before and enjoyed, but really hated this time around.
:rotten: 0/10: The harshest rating, implying that the film had absolutely nothing to merit the waste of time. Very rarely given.
