Last night, I saw a movie that was second only to the completely amazing Iron Man.
That movie was "The Incredible Hulk", the second movie made by the outstanding and unbelievably good Marvel Studios (the first movie they made being "Iron Man").
I hated the Ang Lee "Hulk". It was boring, Banner was too whiny, and there wasn't enough action AS the Hulk (now that I think about it, the same problems plague the Spider-Man series). Oh, and let's not forget the Gamma Dogs. And the crappy villain. And the crappy special effects.
This "Hulk" is NOTHING like the steaming pile of crap that Ang Lee made. The movie is thrilling, Banner, while he appears vulnerable, is the prime blend of conflicted and kick-@$$, and there is more than enough action as the Hulk. The fact that Banner can defend himself without becoming the Hulk (if he even needs to, because he rivals Jason Bourne in terms of street-running wit) also provides a wonderful change of pace, too. There are no Gamma Dogs here, the villains, being the U.S. Army, and, later, The Abomination, are threatening and horribly dangerous, and the special effects are utterly wonderful.
If you haven't seen the movie, see it. Immediately. You will be entertained from the very beginning, which, by the way, not only makes some references to Iron Man (you HAVE seen it, right?), but also gets the tedious and boring backstory that everyone already knows about out of the way, to the very end, with a cameo by the sexiest guy on the face of the Earth.
This movie is one of my favorites, seconded only by Iron Man (and if you haven't seen it, then go see it, because your failboat has landed), which you should see first so that you get all of the minor references.
Now, if only Marvel Studios would remake the Spider-Man movies...
