The film is nearly relentless with the action from start to finish with a lot going on. At first it felt like they were trying to add layers to these characters and it was falling short because we have a little too many characters and threads to keep track of. But as the movie goes on everything comes together nicely and for a comedy it becomes one of the more heartfelt superhero stories to date.
Because there is so much going on the characters outside of the Guardians are for the most part forgettable. While that is surely a weakness of the film (not caring about the on coming threat) it is a forgivable when the team building of the Guardians was executive rather superbly.
The action was serviceable. I hate fast pace action sequences where it is a challenge to make sense of things but the film had some visually satisfying moments that were well executed.
The main flaw for me was the best moments of this movie are when it slowed down. When characters interacted or sequences of events involved a quieter environment with a few characters. The best parts of the movie while effective are limited because that action doesn't really give you much time to breath.
Overall a good film with a bit of great in it.
