I saw the original movie just last week and it was great (sure it sucks by today's standards but come on, it was made in 1933) just after I saw the latest Harry Potter which was really good. Actually every Potter was relatively true to the source and the great thing was that the characters evolved and behaved their age.

Anyway back to Kong. I never really doubted that the movie was gonna be phenomenal but it was much better than I expected. Damn, that Peter Jackson is talented. His passion for the source material(which is the original film) just oozes and none of the emotional content is lost. In fact it is exponentially enhanced. All the performances were spot on; Naomi Watts, Jack Black and Adrien Brody were perfectly cast and Andy Serkis was great as both Kong and the resident cook. James Howard Newton's score was great as was his emotional score in Batman Begins. But the bulk of the credit must go to Peter Jackson and the CG artists at Weta.

King Kong is definitely in my list of Top 5 of 2005 (among Sin City and Batman Begins) and I surely am going to get the DVD for this one.
