Either someone forgot to clue Armie Hammer in on the joke, or Johnny Depp was giggling from smoking WAY too much loco weed.
Personally, i thought the movie was one big goof from start to end. When you have a TEXAS Ranger riding through what is obviously the New Mexico countryside, then ending up saving (or demolishing) the railroad at the Transcontinental link in Promontory Point, UTAH, you know that someone hasn't thought through things well, or slept through geography class in school. I did like hearing the William Tell Overture in there, an obvious nod to the old TV show, but even that got chopped up a bit for no apparent reason.
It ran a little long, I suppose, but I've seen 90 minute movies that seemed to last twice as long as this, which clocked in at an hour more. Was this a great theatrical triumph? Heck, no. Would I recommend it to friends? Heck, yes.
