******"CLOSE ENCOUNTERS..." REDUX*****
It doesn't seem to matter if Abrams came to Spielberg, or vice versa, the obvious intent was to do a [35 year later] remake of "Close Encounters...". What a silly idea. The film is imitative to the nth degree, even down to the [now predictable] scorING.
While the efects, esp. of the crash may be terrific, the fact that they all happen by the cover of dark night, makes them a lot less than stupefying.
Not only does the movie have a very slow start, it is filled with too many lapses of any interest. And talk about a story with holes in it; this movie can compete with a large chunk of Swiss cheese.
I'm just wondering whether the movie, made for the male pre-teen market, will have enough to keep this group involved.
Re; the special efects/CGI; they're good, but far from innovative or good enough.
As is said in this 1979 tale ......... 'awesome' it ain't and 'whatever' it is.
