“You lost control lifting your dumbbell!”
The first of these three comics depicts the Goon being sequestered to aid a factory union who is rioting against an injustice due to poor working conditions. The second comic tells the tale of the Goon’s mother and his actual origins. The final story is a parody of the comic book industry and how the Goon would fit in the DC or Marvel universe.
“I just need three drops of blood and a stool sample.”
“Stool?”
“Semen will work, too.”
Eric Powell, who worked on the Billy the Kid’s Old Timey Oddities, Buzzard, Chimichanga, and The Zombie: Simon Garth series, delivers The Goon issues 37 through 39. The storyline for these comics are excellent (39 was just okay but 37 and 38 were perfect 10s). The artwork, also by Eric Powell, was perfect for the content.
“Look, if you don’t want it, just do what I was gonna do with the little goon. Put him in a sack and throw him in the river.”
The Goon is one of my top 3 favorite ongoing series. Powell does a brilliant job of delivering interesting storylines and continues to deliver plots worth following. The historical elements presented in these comics are breathtaking making them must reads for Goon fans. I definitely recommend reading these comics and jumping into the Goon universe.
“You still gay?”
“Oh, yeah. Totally gay.”
