The Beast Within (1981)
Agrees With....
Posted on 10/11/08 at 6:13 AM Eli and Caroline MacClearly are celebrating their honeymoon by traveling to a remote location in the countryside. Along their drive one evening they suffer an unfortunate accident. Caroline is dragged from the car and into the woods by a mysterious creature. Caroline is raped by the creature and she gives birth to what appears to be a normal human baby boy. However, as the boy grows up, he appears to develop morphing capabilities. “You boys are always dropping things because you play with yourself too much.” Philippe Mora, director of Howling II & III, Communion, Back in Business, Burning Down the House, and Mothers little Murderer, delivers The Beast Within. The storyline for this picture is interesting, but did not develop as well as I’d hoped. The special effects were okay, but nothing spectacular. The cast was mediocre and included Ronny Cox (Deliverance), Paul Clemens (Day Break), and John Dennis Johnston (Wild Bill). “Can you do the magic like the locusts and cicadas?” The Beast Within aired on the Independent Film Channel’s (IFC) Grindhouse Theatre last night. I was hoping Mora presented the transformation of the main character in a similar fashion as werewolves in werewolf movies; however, the special effects were lacking throughout. I was also hoping that the kill scenes were a bit gorier. Overall, this is only worth watching if you are a fan of the horror genre; otherwise, this is forgettable. “The boy is sicker then we know.” Grade: D |
