I decided to put the last finishing touches on this review and sorry if you get a migraine. Thank you for those who rate it.
St Anger is outstanding, except it has a lot of errors. St Anger has been getting mixed reviews. I remember reviewing the St Anger album a while ago; I just listen to the song a quickly reviewed it. Without even checking or listening to the tracks! A few days ago I've listen to the album again and then I got more interested about it. After carefully listening to the songs, I say St Anger is an awesome and great album from the master of metal Metallica, but the songs have a lot of errors. I first hear St Anger edited and the song were good, but just iffy. Later on I checked out St Anger in the library explicit and I found it a lot better than the edited version. This album is amazing though it's not better than Metallica's old stuff.
The album St Anger is considered to be Metallica's worst album of all time. Yes I do consider being Metallica's worst, but the album isn't all that bad! It's been about 20 years since Metallica released their first album Kill 'Em All, but now there was possible chance of Metallica breaking up. Metallica has made some thrashy album are heavy like Kill ?Em All, Ride The Lightning, and Master of Puppets, including their strongest album ?And Justice For All. Metallica has done things that no other rock band would do, like making an album that is awesome like the self-title album or The Black Album. I say it was Metallica's best one and very artistic. They also change their music style from thrash metal to hard rock (Load, Reload). They made an album with just covered songs (Garage Days Re-Revisited, Garage Inc., played with orchestra (S & M), had strong song for Mission Impossible 2, and sued Napster (ha ha ha ha, huh? Metallica no! Bad Metallica, bad Metallica, bad Metallica, bad! It was going good for Metallica until everything cracked for them and it was near to break. Starting with Jason Newest leaving the band.
Getting back to the album, there are 11 songs are in St Anger, but not all of them are bad. What about the "Good old times" songs like Frantic, St Anger, Some Kind of Monster, Dirty Window, and Invisible Kid. Yeah, St Anger is the lowest Metallica?s album compared to their old stuff, but I like the album for what it features. Though it has bad drums, no solos, bad lyrics, and the production is raw, St Anger is heavy and aggressive.
Metallica had 3 years making St. Anger because there hostility and turmoil around the band. I think it started when bassist Jason Newest left Metallica. Metallica tried to replace him, while that happened; producer Bob Rock played the bass. James went to rehab for drinking and then him and Lars were at each other?s throat while they were recording. If you want to know more, than see Some Kind of Monster to learn about the struggle Metallica had while recording St. Anger.
Give me a break if you think I?m moron for liking this album. Though I admit that there are a lot of errors in the song, the songs are half good. St. Anger is a good album with a lot of mistakes!
St Anger Rehersal
This is a DVD video where Metallica pratices on the song St Anger. It rehersal and is pretty cool. The DVD is a little better than the cd version. Frantic, St Anger, Some Kind of Monster, Invisible Kid, Sweet Amber, and All Whitin My Hands are awesome when I saw it in rehersal. Especially Invisible Kid, because he didn't sounded like a sad sad man. Purify and Dirty Window are good in rehersal, the only song that was disappointing was Unnamed Feeling because it was the same and not strange. The reason I like the DVD is because it sounds so different than album.
Frantic is a pretty cool the way they start off and play. I started to go out of control when I herd this song for first time. The song offers a hard riff with hard drumming and a voice that will say it all. I love the lyrics to the song, but I will be heavily criticized.
My lifestyle determines my death style
I think this song is their best and wildest one out of this album. Too bad I end up being lethargic after the song is over.
Check out the music video if you like this song. The video shows about a man who goes into a car crash. He then gets a memory flash of his past where he drank, have sex, and eat. Meanwhile, you see Metallica playing somewhere. I thought the video was amazing and cool, because what it had and the song Frantic.
Pretty good song, but what I don't like is the lyrics for it. The song sounds bad when they said, I madly anger with you But I liked it. The song does have couple of things that I like, for example the flush it out part. The song probably talks about being in prison and committing suicide by hanging yourself. When I get mad and write a futile angry letter or Email to someone I tell him or her to play St. Anger to show how mad I am. That right there is stupid but it will annoy them. This song shows anger and malice!
Check out the music video if you like this song. The video show the group going to San Quentin Prison to perform for some inmates. While the inmates watch, you see some of their past and crimes.
Some Kind of Monster
The best song in this album: lyrics are good (sort of), beat is nice, it's long, and just playing good. James sings while the bass and guitar plays; Lars drums support the beat. The song talks about seeing a face of hate, anger, and anything that gives you displeasure. My favorite lyric is This is the god that ain't so pure. Ironically this monster James talks about is in all of us. Can't deny that.
Speaking of monster you probably hear jokes about your ex being Some Kind Of Monster. But, compare to all the ex-monster jokes Army Men 18's girlfriend is a real monster, though she is very hot. Me and him once had to stay with her and AA18 ended up feeling like Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be.
There is now a movie with this title and it's a documentary. Movie is about turmoil and hostility surrounds Metallica while recording St Anger, especailly James and Lars.
Check out the music video if you like this song. The video shows a the group receiving rumors about them breaking up. You hear interviews and all that stuff.
Dirty Window is a full throttled fast song, with its cool chorus of Dirty Window! Even though the song is short, the song made me intense and a little wild. I like the attack the guitar, bass, and drums make, while James shouts and screams as he sings. It is a little silly when they say protector, rejector, and ect, but I like it because it shows power and aggression. This song shows the reflection of a person judgment on the world and people.
We have all been a judge who slammed gavel saying this person is stupid, evil, and sleazy (I love this one).
Love it, the first part and third part. What I don't like is when they sing it all soft and sad, common Metallica don't do that. This song talks about a kid who avoids the world, suspicious of anyone, and tries to avoid attention. Invisible Kid has some nice lyrics, my favorite is Invisible Kid, locked away from his brain from the shame and pain worl down the drain. I wish I had an Invisible Kid so he can do my dirty work. There is one part that makes James sound like a dying drunk, was that suppose to be his solo.
During my high school day was like the Invisible Kid sort of, because no knew about me and I really don?t care. Have you ever notice anyone that was very quiet, no one ever talked to him, or he could do things without anyone noticing? Because that?s how I picture Invisible Kid.
My World is a hard-hitting song talking about being a person that has his own world. The person in the song feels like someone else is trying to control him. The bass, drums, guitar, and voice are awesome, but a little dumb. I have a world that is the same as good old army_men_18. I picture this song as the kind of songs that is for the people that are crazy or completely out there!
Shoot Me Again
What the he11? I imagine this for Shoot Me Again; they just say Shoot Me Again over and over while there is a hard beat going on. It's sort of good, but not that much. Though this has a bad title, but the song is interesting. The song talks about a man who gets shot and tells them too shoot him again , so he could fire back. I think this song refers the shots as criticism and attacks. The title first made think that Metallica was running out song names.
This song is sweet though creepy; I once had a nightmare about a girl by the name Amber. The nightmare came after hearing the song Sweet Amber. I first thought it would be a love song (gulp), but after hearing it I couldn't understand it. The song has a catchy name with the word Sweet and Amber and the song is good. The song has a harda$$ beat and something that I can?t put my finger on. What is this song about? I must know! The song has some catchy lyrics like
Sweet Amber/ how sweet are you/ how sweet does it get and Ooh then she holds my hand and I lie to get a smile.
I sometimes end up dreaming about a hot girl name Amber holding my hand. Wait a minute, uh great, look what you did Metallica! The one in rehersal is amazing and awesome!
Unnamed Feeling is an example of a good song with a lot of errors. James voice is a little bit off when he is singing the first verse. Then when it gets to the chorus, it becomes amazing, but of course you do get the bad voice. I like that little thing were he goes he, e, e, oh, or something like that. One thing that this song shows is that nearly everybody has a feeling that is unnamed. The feeling would stay no matter what you do; sometimes this feeling can lead you into a nightmare.
Check out the music video if you like this song. The song shows people who have something in it, but try to hide the feeling. Then you see the names of a hundreds of feelings.
The song relies on the screaming and fast pace; I sort of find it dumb. But I think this song is pretty OK. I believe this song could have been a lot better. The song is weak, but some of the parts of the song are good. People sometimes have to purify, especially drunks! I think this song was based on James drinking and rehab situation. I have never purify myself and don't stop me, cause I'm Never Gonna Stop (The Red Kroovy)
All Within My Hands
This is the last song in the St. Anger album, though James can't make the song great and over does it on the KILL part of it is still good. The song talks about hostility and strangling someone, I think. I like the kill part and how the song goes. I like the lyrics to song also, it harsh and good like
Hate me now/Kill all within my hands/Crush all within my hands/squeeze all within my hands and one my personal favorites kill kill kill kill kill kill.
We all had that feeling when someone said something to you and had a thought All within my hands/ kill kill kill kill kill kill kill
After hearing St Anger I was left very impress with Metallica. Though it's not their strongest, it's still is a good album. We all have had these experience in our life from good to bad.
Metallica ended up winning Grammy award for Best Metal Performance. Good for them!
On other news, too bad I about Bob Rock, he won't produce their next album, reason I heard is because the fans didn't want him to produce Metallica, probably because of St Anger. In my opinion did great with Metallica. The producer that I have heard will produce their next album is non other than heavy metal and hardcore rap producer Rick Rubin. That is awesome!
What I like about the album is the songs, energy, and the cover of it. What I don't like about the St. Anger was the fact that the errors made and some of the lyrics. It's good that they tried to bring aggression back, because there are too many sorry punk and EMO bands like Avril Lavigne, Story of the Year, Good Charlotte, Yellowcard, Blink 182, and My Chemical Romance. Metallica?s St. Anger is not that bad and it just has a lot of mistake and everyone is not perfect, so rock on!
On the other note in 2005 I heard a lot of hard rock like Disturbed, Foo Fighters, System of a Down, Audioslave, and Avenge Sevenfold and I sort of like the bands.
