So Oscar nominations are out, which means we're gearing up for Oscarpalooza. I'm hoping True Grit, Black Swan, and The King's Speech are in our theatre at least a couple of weeks more. If The King's Speech holds on another week, we'll probably go Saturday. Graham isn't sure why he wants to see it, but he does.
To me, the shock this year is that Tron: Legacy is not up in any category. I've been operating on the assumption that it would win for Visual Effects. It just seemed so obvious. Don't get me wrong; of the five nominees, four of them are entirely deserving. I expect Inception to win. Were it not for Tron, I would have expected it anyway. But you understand my confusion on this point. Tron was the shiniest movie of this year, and it isn't even up in any technical categories. I thought it had one of the best scores I heard this year, but I understand how the Academy might not be with me on that.
Of course, I haven't seen quite a lot of the contenders, though my Netflix queue is now bulging with them. I'll keep you updated. There's only a month to go!
