    Oh, there are much more obvious candidates for that. Henry Ford was the only American mentioned positively in Mein Kampf, for example, and Charles Lindbergh's record on the subject was less than spotless. Griffith was undoubtedly a racist, but I don't think he would have advocated Nazi tactics.

    I think if he had been a European he would have been gung-ho for the fascists.

    I don't know; he was awfully passionate about democracy. Just also kind of a racist. Not even a particularly virulent one for his time. After all, there WERE American fascist parties in the US at the time, and he didn't join one.
