Right up front, I have to admit to potential bias in that I live in the neighborhood in which much of the story was filmed, and it was a hoot to see so many places I've walked through and driven around up on the screen.

Early in the film, I thought I was about to witness a crash-and-burn disaster when Alison Folland first opened her mouth. Knowing this was an indie project, and not being familiar with her previous work I was thinking this was someone with no business being in front of a camera. But she really evolved into a good solid well-played character by the end of the film.

With the possible exception of the extraordinary mystic/savant Albert, all of the characters struck me as being folks that one really could find doing just the things they were doing, just the way they were doing them in this part of our little burg.

The film has a fine helping of schmalz well whipped into the overall concoction, but it is also clever, charming, and it makes one think about biases and assumptions we quickly generate about people we don't really know.
