[left]Kenny was a immensly fresh, very funny mockumentary depicting the story of a few weeks in the life of a portaloo (mobile toilet block) worker named Kenny. The film follows the exploits of the big hearted blue collar worker as he travels to music festivals, drag races, the Melbourne Cup and every event inbetween, setting up rows of mobile toilets, keeping them in working order by clearing pipe blockages and maintaining the supply of paper & keeping them clean. Along the way he must contend with interworkplace conflicts, an aggressive ex wife (whom he calls the "fun police", always contacting him on his mobile phone when things are going great to pester him with the discipline of their young son), and an emotionally bankrupt father & brother. He travels to America on his first flight out of Australia to attend the Tennassee portaloo convention, with comical results.
I went to this film hearing some great reviews but still thinking, how could a film about a mobile dunny man be at all humerous or interesting? But rest assured, I was greatly surprised at just how riveting and hilarious Kenny was. The mockumentary format works a treat, and gets you right amongst the action resulting in a film with a real unscripted authentic quality which (despite the topic matter) gave it a fresh unique feel. Well I suppose the topic matter is rather fresh also, lets face it there have not been many movies about a portaloo worker doing the rounds in the last century!!
All said and done, Kenny is a sure fire winner. Hilarious likeable cast of characters, piss funny humour and one liners, and laugh out loud moments aplenty, this is one independant film which is the sleeper hit for 2006. Just ashame like many Australian films it will probably only go on limited cinema release worldwide.
