My 11 'least' liked films of 2007
No need for a big to do about this list... it's pretty straight forward. Of the films I saw in 2007 these were the 11 that I liked the least. Some I hated, some were huge disappointments. Either way let the countdown of SUCK begin...
11) Oceans Thirteen- :rotten: 5/10 Decisions decisions... a couple films could fall here but two came mostly to mind for the list... and so it is that Oceans 13 just edges out 'Blades of Glory' to start off my suck list. While an improvement over the awful Oceans Twelve, this 3rd film was simply a waste and once again failed to capture any magic from the very fun/slick Oceans Eleven. Please stop making these films!
10) Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer- :rotten: 4/10 Ugh, this film (and it's predecessor) just gets the whole superhero/comic book gig wrong. They're really a slap in the face to genuine comic book geeks everywhere. The Silver Surfer was 'fairly' cool but deserved better than this crap.
9) Aliens Vs. Predator Requiem- :rotten: 4/10 Oh boy, I give up. Seriously both of these classic movie monsters deserve so much than this garbage. The film has a few decent moments but the acting and the story both sucked way too hard. Please do us all a favor and stop making movies about Aliens and Predators... no one knows how to do it right so just give up already.
8) Shooter- :rotten: 4/10 Here's a film (for some reason) a lot of people like. I sure didn't. It started out decent enough but devolved into into a sloppy, cliché filled, ridiculous and often too politically preachy snoozfest that was far too short on realism. The absurd ending with the baddies sitting around sipping on booze and smoking cigars in a posh mountain lair, laughing boisterously at their 'supposed' victory was down right insulting. Please don't make a Shooter 2!
7) Seraphim Falls- :rotten: 4/10 Most people never saw this film... I wish I was one of them. After a decent start the story in Falls simply unravels into a meticulously absurd chase/revenge movie that falls completely flat on it's face in the end. No wonder this film disappeared so fast.
6) Shrek the Third- :rotten: 4/10 How fast can a movie series fall from grace? Watch this huge disappointment and find out. The story in Shrek the Third felt rushed, unoriginal and the jokes really had a stale feel to them. Seriously I rarely cracked a smile and never got out a single hardy laugh. Really hope the Hollywood 'powers that be' hang it up and let a good thing just die with dignity... I would hate to have the good memories of Shrek and Shrek 2 soiled anymore than what they were here.
5) The Host- :rotten: 3/10 This was one of those WTF moments for me. People 'loved' this? Huh? Everything in The Host felt cheap and/or sub-par. That includes the insanely unoriginal story, poorly written dialogue, bad acting and even some very average (to below) special effects (by 21st century standards). No fun at all was had here in this foreign film blunder.
4) Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End- :rotten: 2/10 This third and hopefully final entry in the Pirates series is a confusing, jumbled, brainless, witless, soulless, over the top drawn out goofy mess! The Pirates movies have officially lost any magical fun that the first film offered up and I hope and pray to the Maker above that we never see another one. Bad story, stupid plot points abound in this waste of a film that I almost walked out of. Part of me wishes I had.
3) Pathfinder- :rotten: 2/10 Pain. That's the best word to describe this complete waste of time called Pathfinder. God awful dialogue and a very thin ridiculous plot that had me dozing off half way through is all I really remember from my night in Pathfinder hell. Now I know why this film was shelved for so long... it blew chunks.
2) The Mist- :rotten: 0/10 I found this film to be insulting and detestable. Pretty strong words I know, but it's what I feel and I'm not going back away from it. Frank Darabont and Stephen King managed to give us a story about a town of seriously mentally challenged folks and even conjured up a way to insult humanity and a great many other things along the way (including the Christian religion). Just a bad bad movie all the way around.
1) Shoot 'Em Up- :rotten: 0/10 I sure wish I could gather up the writer and director of this film and Shoot 'Them Up. Easily, without question my most hated film of '07' was this tasteless, unfunny, redundant, boring and poorly thought out complete waste of time. Note to the writer/director: Using a new born infant as an action piece (the baby is tossed over buildings, laid on filthy bathroom floors and even jousted over in cars while laying in the middle of a road) is not cute or funny... it's sick and stupid. This film did nothing for me what so ever and gets my award as Turd of the year.
