Best movie of the year, so far. A perfect follow-up to one of my all-time favourites, 1995's Before Sunrise. I'd love to see a whole series of movies with Jesse and Celine, a la the Antoine Doinel flicks.
The Manchurian Candidate (1962)
The best political thriller of all time. Its chilling vision still resonates today. I've seen it many times, which caused me great skepticism when thinking about seeing the remake.
The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
I saw it, despite my serious reservations. It follows a similar storyline to the original with a few changes, some great, some not so great. Demme's direction doesn't compare to Frankenheimer's. But a big selling point of the remake is the great political satire - hilarious, timely, and pointed squarely at the current U.S. administration. Maybe this movie won't stand the test of time, but right now, it's an important film.
Wasn't bad. Head and shoulders above any recent teen flick, quality wise. Had some funny moments, but dragged a bit near the end.
Jesus, what a mess. It gets two points for a few moments of unintentional humour.
