I'm mixed about this film. Mostly it's very good and Kristen Wiig heartedly deserves an Oscar for a performance range that would be beyond Meryl Streep: sad, hilarious, dramatic, slapstick outrageous, bitchy, touching, completely ordinary and honest, cute, etc., etc. But the vomit and toilet scenes were not funny for me at all. I even read a review that stated that watching a women dressed in a bridal gown soil herself in the street was liberating for Women. I wish people would just review films and leave out the social commentary unless it's really relevant. This is a comic drama about women, people, did you like it or not?
Toilet scene aside, the characters are not original but they are drawn out well and brilliantly acted. And the humour is constantly on tap and funny, sometimes in the blackest way imaginable.
The tone of the film various constantly, too much for me and the scenes I liked best were the quieter ones, particularly those showing her relationship with the policeman. The three to five minutes where she is desperately trying to get his attention after walking out on him are some of the funniest minutes I've spent in a cinema.
