12 Angry Men (1957)
60%Expertly made drama, and often compelling. Hits the occasional false note, and I still can't get over my dislike for Henry Fonda, but it's a film worth watching.

Hamlet (2000)
Agrees With....
Posted on 9/18/04 at 8:13 AM (Presentation) (First Viewing, 1st Scott film)
Hallmark and Shakespeare... an odd pairing, to say the least. Campbell Scott (who both starred and directed) makes a fine Hamlet, but everything else is very TV movie quality, including the style, the editing, and the acting of the supporting characters. And at three hours long... well, I was intensely wishing I was watching the 2000 theatrical version of Shakespeare's classic play, starring Ethan Hawke (which I have not seen). |

Was this the Kenneth Branaugh movie, or am I confusing this with another?

No, this is a made-for-TV version. I would have preferred to see the Branagh version, or preferebly the Ethan Hawke one. But I don't get to choose the films- I'm just in charge of screening them.

Campbell Scott is one of my favorite actors, so this is sad news. I was thinking of going through his filmography one week. Now I know I'll have to skip this one.
And the Hamlet with Ethan Hawke is not just a theatrical version of Shakespeare's classic play, it is a modern update. i haven't seen it but I have heard mixed reactions.

Well, if you do end up seeing this film, it is only worth seeing because of Scott's performance, which is the film's saving grace. It just never is able to rise about its made-for-TV orgins.
Yeah, that the Hawke version is an update is one aspect that particularly interests me, as I tend to love them. "O" is one of my all-time favorite films, and I have much fondness for 10 Things I Hate About You as well.

I can't believe I found another person who is a fan of 10 Things I Hate About You.
It is so charming and quick-witted, I don't see how anyone could dislike it.
