You can't deny it. Movies are getting more worse by the day. Plunging your head in a toilet while your bud just had a bad night of Taco's and Beer is more entertaining than watching some of this horrible shit. Gee, that sounds like a Jackass skit... Or maybe its been done, who knows.
But the movies are coming out 20 bucks a piece. Thats almost too much to begin with. Especaily for some of the films. Do you really want to spend 20 bucks for The Grudge? No, neither do I, I'd rather rent Ju-On from the library for free watch it, and if I like it, buy it. Because its a better film. Not some crappy J-Horror Rip off. PG-13 bullshit. Don't get me started on that yet, I'll save that for a later Rant.
And what happens when these bad flicks come out in the theaters? They are put on Torrents for downloads for free. Sure, its illegal. But it should be a big fucking hint that we aren't willing to spend money on that trash.
I feel really bad when I have to spend 4 bucks at Cinemark on a film that might not be worth it. I think it should be cheaper. And the Dollar Cinemark Theater in Mansfield does it justice because thats actually worth it. Well the Drive would make it about the same, but if you got out with a group of people, the cost is a big difference. And you wouldn't feel so bad for watching Employee of the Month...... Yea, I was still too cheap to see it then as well. Dane Cook in a PG-13 movie?? Yea... I'm not seeing that (again with the PG-13 thing, its sounding like a better and better Rant!).
But even after the film comes out, I don't goto BlockBuster, HollywoodVideo, MovieGallery, or any of those places, I spend 50 cents at the library and they have a great selection. And if they don't have it, I can find it easily online and they can send for it from cleveland, and those are for free!! Damn I'm a cheap Bastard. But a good one. I've seen alot of films for under 10 bucks and didn't think twice about it.
My whole family is a movie whore collector though. And so am I. I love to collect movies. But only when they are really cheap. Or when they are used at EB Games and at a good price (I almost considered buying The Grudge, The Ring 2, and A Few Good Men all for 10 bucks, but didn't because they didn't have the Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale. Thats right I want to save 2 bucks!)
EB Games usually has a great selection of movies. Most of them are stolen from Wal-Mart, BestBuy, FYE, ect. Thats why you see so many season TV on DVD sets at EB Games. They know its stolen, they alert the people at the afore mentioned stores. But they do nothing. Hell, there's about 4 copies of The Godfather Collection at my EB Games for 30 bucks. Thats a steal... I just haven't gotten myself to buy it yet.
But if you must buy new, some stores have been doing some great things to try and make 20 bucks not such a bad thing. Take Best Buy. Their New Release movies are usually around 16.99 bucks a piece. And to top if off, they usually have a 2 for 20 deal that if you buy that new release they'll have about 3 other movies (they usually range from 5-7 bucks) and you can pick them both up for 20 bucks. Its an alright deal. But sometimes the cheaper DVD is usually better.
And here comes the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray DVDs. And they cost more as well. usually more than 10-15 bucks then the 20 buck DVDs. And sure the quality is better but is it really worth it?? And the huge format war is really bad because for one. All the Film Distrubitors are split on if they ship onto Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. So you would basically have to have both formats to enjoy your movie on for a better quality. More Money because of stupid Companies making you choose. Its basically the same of having to buy a Nintendo Product to play Zelda and a Microsoft Product to play Halo. Both great games. I just don't think movies should be ran like that.
So on the Format war, I'm sticking to plain DVD. They are cheaper. And I don't have to choose. This format war wasn't as simple and easy when the jump from VHS to DVD. It was plainly easy to see for that one. But just as the console war, we will see what happens.
And back onto the price of DVDs. Maybe if they start making movies that are worth seeing. Then 20 bucks wouldn't seem so bad. Until then. I'll be seeing whats available at my Library. Keep on reading True Believers!!
