Seth Rogan and his celebrity friends are partying it up at James Franco's house, when the biblical rapture strikes. Hilarity ensues. Unrelenting hilarity, much of which demonstrates that the penis joke will never go out of style. The characters are as lovable as they are horrible people. Between monster attacks, demonic possessions, and attempted Pineapple Express sequels, literally anything can happen.

Interconnected stories about people looking for happiness in the most twisted places. Funny in a scathing black-hearted sort of way. Some stories go to more interesting places than others. Kind of slow.

By-the-numbers home invasion flick does good setting up the characters and situation before running headlong into the land of no ideas. There's only so many times a masked figure can sneak into or vanish from frame until it stops being eerie. The film is also plagued by moments when our terrorized heroes will forgo a perfectly logical plan for an actively bad one. Like splitting up. Or walking slowly through the middle of large rooms, ensuring the killers have ample opportunity to sneak up on them. There's also the fact that it's not like these people can't just leave the house. They're not stranded in the wilderness or anything. Nice cinematography. Short on scares. Even shorter on logic.

Found footage horror anthology outdoes its predecessor by upping the batting average (first and third segments are great; second is good; fourth, not so much). The wrap around story again takes an encouraging premise and goes absolutely nowhere with it.

I don't think that one takes advantage of the medium the way the others do. Very straight forward. No surprises. Plus the camerawork is crazy chaotic.

It's exactly the kind of thing that you'd expect from Eisener. It may not take advantage of the medium, but it's still one of the only segments that actually approaches being scary, thanks to the "less is more" ideology.

The bionic eye one was way scarier. Aliens just want to chase you around and abduct you. Ghosts on the other hand -- who knows what those bastards are thinking.

This franchise has turned into some kind of machismo fuelled soap-opera, and I love it when a series strings together sequels into one nice convoluted storyline just as much as the next guy (worked for "Saw", I guess?), but it's been six instalments and I still don't care one iota about these people. Nobody's in a car, firing machine guns, or kicking each other in the face? Then it doesn't matter. On the other hand, the action sequences have hit a franchise high. A bunch of people working together to systematically take down a tank or an airplane is seriously fun. Especially when things like gravity are more guideline than rule. But that's all there is to see here. If you come for the vehicular carnage, be prepared to nap through the slow spots.

    M. Night serves up his take on the superhero origin story in an uncommonly thoughtful and quiet way. Get ready for many long takes at odd angles of people whispering to each other. The method is plenty absorbing, but it does gets awfully close to strenuous at times. Less of the relationship subplot might have paced things up a bit. Practically cries out for a sequel.

Depp and Pacino make a superb mobster duo, but even they can't escape the trappings of the genre. If the film builds to an underwhelming fizzle, it at least ends on an admirably dignified note.

Weird off-beat comedy about impending nuclear annihilation. Hilarious in its own subversive deadpan way. Gleefully cynical.

Jennifer Lawrence roams the totally not post-apocalyptic rural south in search of her father. The whole thing feels like a profoundly depressing version of real life, so points for that. Unfortunately, just like in real life, very little actually happens. A couple suspenseful moments. Unsatisfying conclusion.
