"500 Days of Summer" is a mildly charming, superficial little movie about two lethargic but well-dressed twentysomethings in love.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt does an adequate job portraying the young mope at the center of the story. Zooey Deschanel looks great but has very little to do in playing the woman who captures his heart. We watch him get swept off his feet and her stay remote. The movie does not attempt to get inside either character. We just watch them make cute faces to convey whether they are happy or sad. I have heard people raving about this film, which mystifies me. It has all the depth of the greeting cards that the main character writes for a living. |
