The Fox and the Hound (1981)
Agrees With....
Posted on 2/5/07 at 12:28 AM The title says it all. I have seen the movie when I was a kid and thought it was a very nice movie. Nothing more than that, just a nice movie. Wasn't my favorite, but also not my least loved animated film from Disney.
Growing up with Disney movies has given me a sense of knowledge of how their movies are put together - style, animation, dialogue, characters. And when I re-watched The Fox and the Hound I went into that "screening" with all that knowledge packed into my critical view. The movie isn't great when comparing it to other classics. But that is not what I'm reviewing, so I'll just look at the movie by itself. And I can stand by my previous judgment: the movie isn't great. The animation is flakey, and the style sometimes isn't that enjoyable to watch for a movie that is over an hour long. Some backgrounds are beautiful, but overall it still gave me a sense of, "is this the best they could have done?" While the story is very nice, and the progress in the whole story line is put out wonderfully. But the dialogue is what breaks up the movie. Big momma, no relation to Fox's Big Momma, has a very pleasant personality, and she together with Todd's love interest Vixey, steal the whole movie. 'Cause the dialogue of the main characters is very little, and what they say isn't that appealing. A shame, because it could have made up the whole animation style. |
