0 Replies | Report Abuse Very interesting list and what a cool project you're doing. RE: "Extremely Loud" -- I am with you on its not deserving a Best Picture nomination. But I didn't find it trivializing of 9/11 at all. I liked the basic idea very much. I just didn't think Daldry knew how to translate it to film very well. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Have seen all except the first and last, agree with most and disagree with others. I do find your description of Seabiscuit ironic since it is the only one based on real life events. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Love these kind of blog entries! Entertaining! By just reading the title, I was sure you were gonna mention Cimarron and The Greatest Show On Earth, which are two notoriously bad picks. But I like your explanatory statements and agree with many of those you chose. Keep those blog entries comin'! 0 Replies | Report Abuse yeah, on reflection I can see these as valid critcisms. I think the films in their entirety made up for these faults, but hey, no film was made for everyone. Ditto Sherry9lee comments. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

yeah, personal taste is 90% of the arguments in this place. People got to remember this is a highly subjective art form, the movies I mean. 0 Replies | Report Abuse This is a great list. I especially agree with the placement of 'Psycho' at the top. It's not just a great horror film. It's a great film, period. I recently saw his last film, 'Family Plot,' which I would rate as his worst. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Interesting. I haven't seen "Family Plot" yet. It is one of the only ones I've missed. I'm planning on seeing it soon. Thanks for the opinion on it. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

I see what you mean. I enjoy reviewing and the star system is out of wack. But it's best movie reviewing site next to IMDB. I was gonna switch myself months ago but decided not to. What the weird thing is, half of the website when I am using it it looks like the old RT??? As I look at your profile now its the old style. It's really strange. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Same here. I have my old page right now, but it will change back and forth. I hate it. 1 Replies | Report Abuse it's so f***** up, I can't add friends if i go on a movie, go to the user reviews and click a name. On the new layout there seems to be no add friend button. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Yeah, I don't understand. When I look at my page, it doesn't have a star system, just the percents. 1 Replies | Report Abuse It seems to change back and forth for me. I hate it. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I access RT via several different browers from time to time. I notice that RT still loads correctly w/ Internet Explorer 8. I see the star sytem w/: Google Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Yeah, ever since Flixter came along RT changed for the worse, calling the changes "upgrades". For whom? Not for the community. The biggest thing I miss is the email notifications of comments or blog activity. I never know who is commenting on my reviews except for the last 5. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

I hope your favorites win tonight. But, I hope mine do more! I still hate having 10 nominees, but alas, I'm still watching. In fact I currently am a half block away from the Kodak Theatre. Hollywood BLvd is OUT O' CONTROL right now.
Here's what I hope wins: Best Picture: The Hurt Locker Director: Kathryn Bigelow Actor: Jeff Bridges - Crazy Heart Actress: Gabourey Sidibe - Precious Sup Actor: Christoph Waltz - Ingourious Basterds Sup Actress: Vera Farmiga - Up in the Air |

I don't know how many of you all have Netflix. I do. For the most part I have been happy with their service. I like having the new releases waiting in my mailbox each Tuesday. Today (01/07/10) Netflix announced that they have reached an agreement with Warner Bros. to not carry any of their new releases until they have been out on DVD for a month. Warner believes this will force people to go and buy the DVD if they want to watch it. For their part Netflix will get Warner films cheaper.
I for one want to watch the movies as quickly as possible when they come out on DVD, and I'm not going to buy the DVD to do it. I will stop at some video place that actually hasn't cut this deal with Netflix. Netflix is hoping to cut the same type of deal with other studios. Because of this deal I have decided to cancel my Netflix account and I am refusing to purchase any Warner DVD's no matter how much I like the film. If I want the movie I will wait and purchase it used from a rental store. I want to send them a message that this is a very bad judgment call that won't help their sagging DVD sales. It is bad business for both companies. I e-mailed Warner Bros. with the complaint and called Netflix to let them know that after several years with them I will be discontinuing. There are too many rental outlets out there to have this type of service. I encourage others with Netflix accounts to call them as well and let know that this won't work. Here is their customer service number: 866-716-0414 I also encourage everyone to continue forwarding this to as many people as you can. Thanks. |

loli cant use netflix anyway if i dont live in the us, can i? 0 Replies | Report Abuse loli cant use netflix anyway if i dont live in the us, can i? 0 Replies | Report Abuse I don't mind this change- it's done because Warner Bros is losing profits from people not buying as many DVDs anymore and netflix doesn't wanna increase monthly fees - so it is change. Those movies with the 28 day delay will be available on instant stream so you can watch on the computer or on tv if you hook it up to the tv via the internet. Many new releases I have to see by other means anyway through netflix right now- Inglorious Basterds, The Hangover, Jennifer's Body- all have VERY LONG WAIT, and are not available on instant stream. Seems like i'll never get those movies, so basically I have to rent through another source or buy the movie- so I'm all for this. As for prefering it on DVD format instead of instant streaming- I have over 100 movies in my dvd queue, so waiting a month won't kill me. 0 Replies | Report Abuse It shuld be pointed out that the films will not be streamed on netflix until after the 28 day wait. 0 Replies | Report Abuse You may just be right- I just read the article again and it is vague. The article says ... "we're able to extend the range of choices available to be streamed to our members."The article I read also does not specifically say that you cannot stream the new releases either, but suggests it. Looks like we may simply get an expanded number of streaming titles that have been out for a while - not new releases. I'd be interested in seeing how this affects other movie services too- I'd prefer this over a monthly price increase, but it's not a good move overall. This is my source:http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/01/07/cnet.netflix.warner.bros.movies/index.html 0 Replies | Report Abuse I talked with someone at Netflix this morning and they said that the streaming for new releases from Warner would begin 28 days after it's release. My biggest fear here is that netflix is looking to cut a similiar deal with other studios, making it so new releases are never available the day they come out. All this just so they can stream more fils directly to computers. They might be shooting themselves in the foot. That's bullsh*t! 0 Replies | Report Abuse That's bullsh*t! 0 Replies | Report Abuse I know. I'm sorry to hear it but at the same time I almost don't care. When I figured out that Netflix didn't care about what rare and expensive out of print/out of stock dvd's I wanted to see or help with me getting to see those I changed my plan from a 4 at a time on average plan to the 4.99 plan where I get one watch it now and 2 rentals per month. I can cover the rest through cheap blind buys at a used dvd store and through buying used dvd's through storefronts on Amazon.com. The rest I get other places for free and I do not download. Netflix's power over me as a consumer of their product fell in the toilet and I think I flushed. I shifted from being an avid Netflix subscriber about 3 months ago and I have never been happier. I don't have cable tv either. My wife and I use the internet for news and weather. If we want to see a show we wait for it to hit dvd and we buy the show. We like this strategy. Wishing everyone the best luck in finding the right strategy for them. And watch what you pay for every month. It adds up over time. See if you can get the services you get from those recurring monthly charges another way so you can at least acrue value over time instead of just renting. 0 Replies | Report Abuse It sounds like you may have the right idea. I might just cut mine back to the 4.99 a month deal. 0 Replies | Report Abuse The unlimited 4 or 5 at a time is a gimmick. If you work Friday and Saturday like I do unlimited 4 or 5 at a time translates to 4 or 5 a week. On this 4.99 plan you turn it around faster than Netflix wants to send you dvd's. Each rental costs 1.66 if you use your one watch it now rental and don't mind watching one movie on your computer via watch it now per month. 0 Replies | Report Abuse One more thing. I think Netflix's business model depends on its users not wanting to bother to buy and not having a place to sell their used unwanted dvd's. Let's say you bought a dvd new or used from Amazon.com for 6 dollars, a very average to above average price for a used dvd and this price includes the 2.98 shipping. Okay you watch that said dvd and it is good for one watch but not more than that. My used dvd shop will give me 3-4 dollars trade for that dvd. So I rented it for around 3 bucks. Sometimes though they give me more than 1/2 the worth via an internet check. The bonus to this is you are buying with very little risk and you can keep what you love and watch it more than once. If you like to watch the movies you love more than once, Netflix at a high rate is not a good fit for you. Sure compared to buying new and brick and mortar Netflix is a good deal but compare it to a used dvd/book exchange store or buying used/new off of Amazon.com storefronts and the business models begins to really break down. If I had Netflix stocks I would sell them right away before the general public figures all of this out and cuts their subscriptions way back I know. Here's a link to an online petition to convince the Academy to reverse their decision to expand the Best Picture race from 5 to 10.
[http://www.myonlinepetition.com/petition/225/Boycott+2010+Oscar+Telecast/] I signed it. I think everyone who cares about the Oscars should as well. |

I will, definately! Just because there were 7 Oscar worth films last year does not mean they should make it 10 this year. 0 Replies | Report Abuse The 5 nominees are hardly ever my favorite, but it cheapens the award to allow five more films that probably don't deserve it anyway. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I will, definately! The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science's might need to drop the "Arts" part of their name as they do one of the stupidest things in their history. On Wed June 24th they announced that they would now offer 10 films as Best Picture nominess instead of 5. Most reports by people close to the decision making say it was because the big studios were upset that the smaller independent films had stolen their thunder during awards season. The Academy doesn't get it. They have now ruined the Oscars by inviting too many quests. Since the mid 1940's the Nominees have been an elite group. That is now all gone. Though it is interesting to watch who wins Best Picture, the fun is who will be nominated. The suspense and excitement in the nominations is over. The Oscars have caved in to the big studios who want another tool in marketing their films. The Academy should be ashamed.

I agree with you 100% 0 Replies | Report Abuse I agree with you 100% 0 Replies | Report Abuse Intriguing. I have a very different view of this. I wrote a piece on it in my RT blog, if you can find it. I basically said that this will serve to bring attention to twice the number of films per year, which I see as a great improvement. 0 Replies | Report Abuse But, the studios pushed for this so they could have a chance at getting their no-brainer blockbusters in. Remember a few years ago when they tried to stop screeners from being sent out because it helped arthouse films do better. I think it may backfire on them. But, it does make it so the nomination doesn't matter so much anymore. There is a reason why they stopped doing 10 nominations in 1945 and back then they had more worthy films. I suspect that they academy will likely change it back to 5 noms within a couple of years. We can only hope!! 0 Replies | Report Abuse I don't have information about whether studio heads lobbied for this or not, but I have seen many journalists claiming this. All the connections I have to the Academy say that studio heads do not have much say. It's an independent organization led by artists. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Intriguing. You are a lucky dude to be able to be so close to the action at Sundance. Even in some support capacity brings you closer than I'll ever have the chance to be. This saloon of mine in WWII Casablanca sees to that.
