★★1/2 (out of four)
Clint Eastwood takes a break from directing amd returns to acting with this mildly likeable and thoroughly predictable drama that boasts some decent performances, especially from Amy Adams. The earnest efforts aren't quite enough to make up for the entirely convention story that goes exactly where it is expected to go.
Eastwood plays Gus, a respected talent scout for the Atlanta Braves baseball team. He travels to North Carolina to check out a hot prospect. HIs daughter, Mickey (Adams) joins him on the road to try and reconcile their frayed relationship.
Adams is really the center of the film. Eastwood plays his typical, gruff geazer. He is almost a caricture of his old self. The film isn't terrible, but it is rarely inspiring.
