Why? A simple question, not a simple answer. No one critic can tell us anything. They are all just pushing their own opinion. The reason we listen is because most of us cannot afford the time or money to go to every movie to decide for ourselves. So we listen to others. I personally pay more attention to the RT community than the critics. I find this place much help in deciding what movies to pay for and which ones to wait for DVD.
But I can't just go by the rating, I have to read reviews, so I read the critics reviews too. Why? Because most of them are better writers than the average person here, and often the community rates a movie with no reasons. I personally found Hancock to be very enjoyable, dramatic, and intelligent. The fact that it didn't get an overall good rating here did not stop me from seeing it in the theater, not after I read the reviews and found out why some liked it and some didn't.
And it always amazes me that some critic will hate, dispise, loath, a movie almost everyone else loves. Star Wars has the highest community rating I can find at 94%, and the critics rated it higher than Titanic. In both cases there were both community members and critics that didn't like them.
Well, you can't please everyone, might as well please yourself. And with the help of people here, that is what I try to do. Thanks to all, critics and community alike.
OH, for all those critics that disliked Titanic, Star Wars, Iron Man, and the Dark Knight, I can only assume you also think Shakesphere was a hack, Enstein was a moron, Ghandi was a liberal, and you are the center of the universe! Ring, ring,, I think I hear the clue phone,, please pick it up.
