Okay, I'm done making my Easter Enchilda's so I can reply here using more than my pinkee as I did with my first reaction to the outrage poured out by Ryan Stewart. First of all, perhaps your rage and energy gave out toward the end of your skreed but it's obvious that your conclusion is what you put in the rest of the essay - namely that people are idiots and nowhere near as smart as you think you are. I don't know why you didn't just say it again, you said it in the title, you said it throughout and you say it in your reviews generally. You are under some illusion that movies are some sort of medicine that you prescribe and that the rest of us are supposed to thankfully take and then digest and then praise you for your your wisdom and good taste.
By way of derision you mention that we want pointless, soulless and painless movies. In other words you require that we watch movies with a point, a point is a message and of course it has to be a message you decide is important so that we be educated correctly. Sort of like the movies that the Soviet Union or Communist China would make. The failure of Grindhouse and the rage it triggered in you is interesting. The movie has no point and no message as far as I can see. Unless the point is 'see how loud and over the top I can be.'
Now let's see, 'soulless, what does that mean? Soulless, without a soul, without greatness or nobleness of mind or lacking sensitivity. I don't know where you see greatness in Grindhouse, it not's sensitive, it comes at you loudly. It's not noble. The nobility of man is not enhanced by a bikini clad female amputee with a gun where her leg used to be flying through the air shooting at whoever.
Painless movies. You know, I'm mostly amused when you or someone like you rants on about how stupid people are for not liking the movies you like. Mostly. But when you berate people for not liking painful movies (the opposite of painless movies) that starts to get me mad. Where do you get off telling me or anyone that we should like or go watch painful movies? I don't know if you've heard about it or experienced it but life is full of pain already. And the fact is that lots of people have stressful, crappy lifes. Maybe they have a chance to go see a movie once or twice a month to give them a break for an hour and a half before plunging back into their lives. Those people want to go see something that makes them smile or makes them laugh or gives them a thrill. Maybe the want to take their family to see a movie, maybe everyone wants to have a good time. How dare you berate everyone else with your holier and smarter than thou attitude. Your opinion is as good as anybody else's opinion, not better than anyone else's opinion. You need to accept the fact that for most people movies are entertainment. The 'important' movies you favor are usually found in the Art House Theater and there are good reasons for that.
