Well, here I am; over a year later and I'm still writing...sometimes. I have made moderate progress in the story but I have not being able to move away from the begining of the tale. I guess the curse of a writer is to never be happy with his or her's own work.
I have created three chapters and a two part prologue. Chapter three feels very rough to me, more so then one and two. I may write the entire thing, chpt. three I mean. The focus of the chapter was to bring some light to the mysterious men who have taken Hallarian captive after he was seperated from Ulyean. However, again I found that the focus unintentionally shifted to Ulyean racing across the forests and plains of Thea looking for Hallarian. I am starting to wonder if maybe this may have been Ulyean's tale all along...To be continued I guess. Now, I feel pretty good about part one of the Prologue. It is basically a overview of past events that lead to this point in history, much like this story was originally an overview of another story I wanted to tell. I better be careful not too get to involved with it or I'll like ten books with only the first few chapters written. Anyway, I only thing I plan to do to part one is some editing and maybe a little more paddiing. Now Part two starts wher part one leaves of but quickly shifts into a backstory for the story's main villian, and his rise to power. Well that is it for now. I'll try not to wait a year to write another entry. |

Well I am back after a long time away. I Have come a long ways since chapter one. But only in the development of my story. The Rise of Hallarian Chapter Two is completed (For now) and I have to say that I am really enjoying were this journey in writing is going. As much as this tale is about the title character I find myself giving all my best scenes and lines to Ulyean. He was indroduced in the first chapter in a supporting role, as a soldier sent by Hallarian's father before he died to protect his son. Chapter two involved much about Ulyean's background and the type of man he is. One scene involves a flashback to a tragic time in his life where he also meets Trelian, Hallarian's father.
My goal here was to find something relatable Between Hallarian and Ulyean. Since General Trelian has always struck me as a pivtol character (He's the reason there is a story) and I killed him off in the first scene of chapter one, I needed a way to bring depth to him. i already knew that Ulyean and Hallarian both new him and they had at least that in common I felt I needed something more. So history repeated itself; In the flashback of chapter two Ulyean's life is saved by a then Captian Trelian, but the soldier is too late to save the boy's parents. We now gain more of an understanding of Ulyean's guilt in chapter one as he saves Hallarian's life but is too late to save his mother and sister. In chapter three Ulyean reveals this to Hallarian but i am still working on it. So I will be back here when I am ready to move on from that part of the story. |

I have just finished writing the first chapter in The Rise of Hallarian (Me? No I am not he but I liked the name). It was a fun experience pulling this fictional tale together from ideas I had floating around in my head. The funny thing is, I never intended to make this tale, about a young man who must rise above his own selfish revenge and become a great leader, into a potential novel.
It was something that I wrote as part of a Historical overview for a screenplay that I wanted to create. I wanted to have a sense of depth so started with a world history. In this fictional world of Thea there was a man whose family was killed by a evil man bent on controling the land. On his quest of revenge he meets a society of people that remember a time long ago that has been lost to history because of natural catastrophies that nearly wipped the people form the earth. Their duty was conserve this history and wait for a time when the old beauty of a lost empire could be resurected. Obviously the character of hallarian is taken in by these people who see the young man as a tool to beused to resurect honor and justice to the land. You see how much depth there is to his epic story. How could I not write it. So I tried to write it as a short story for an English class at college, but it kept growing until I had a 36 pages and it was only the begining. I hadn't even sratch the surface, and hallarian only just lost his family and found himself in a troubled situation as I concluded all I could for the class. I am taking another class this summer in which the instructor from my current class is letting me continue the novel as a special project. (So Here's hoping that I finish what I started). |
