Finally! I'm glad that someone else realizes that Cube is actually really good. Most people hate it, but I truly enjoyed it. Another thing - please DON'T stay away from the sequels! I haven't seen Cube 2: Hypercube yet, but I did see Cube Zero and I thought it was really good - it's the prequel to Cube. It added another twist in the whole story of Cube, and it gives you even more to think about. Also, I didn't think Two for the Money was all that bad. I'm not a huge fan of Pacino, but I thought he was excellent in "Insomnia." I haven't seen most of his "classic" performances, like the Godfather, Scarface, Serpico, etc.

Yeah, my first day was excellent. I get to work on a documentary film called "Blood and Oil," based on the book by Michael Klare. We're going to do a long interview with him (since he'll be the only talking head), and it's my job to find all the media images for the final cut. They have been archiving the primetime news for ABC, CBS, NBC, FoxNews, and CNN since 2001. There will be a lot of stuff to go through, but I know it will be worth it once I get to see some of my work in a real documentary 1 Replies | Report Abuse

i felt it had a definite immediacy. Relationships, suburbanites, children and emotional meltdowns between two mismatched people, i think, transcend decades, eras, etc. i thought the performances were fantastic! leo went a bit over-the-top (almost into faye dunaway in "mommie dearest" territory) toward the film's end, but winslet, shannon and bates were glorious. it touched me deeply. it frightened me and made me care. on top of that, if i may offer something completely superficial, the fil 0 Replies | Report Abuse
also, i take it that when you say it would've been good in the '50s, you're referring to the representation of suburbia. it's still like that in many areas of this country. evanston, which is right above chicago, is exactly the sort of suburban nightmare we've all seen in "the stepford wives," "american beauty," "the chumscrubber," "revolutionary road," and...well, my home town - ottawa hills, ohio. i really just loved it. it's one of my favorites of the year, and maybe my favorite film from 0 Replies | Report Abuse

It is impossible for him to make such thought-provoking films if he is not a "smart man" and doesn't understand what the film is saying. Impossible. I don't know - the horror genre this year has been hit and miss for me. I was pleased with SAW V and FUNNY GAMES was decent if too implausible, but HOUSE just looked boring even in the trailer. I hope you didn't waste too much money on this flop. I did wonder if it was a remake of the '80's horror film by the same name. It is an interesting concept. If a director does indeed tell the performers what to do, then they are essentially giving the director their trust. I just don't think Alison Lohman should have trusted Atom Egoyan. Ha-ha, she should have realized what she was doing!

Just recently with Match Point, I have never liked Jonathan Rhys-Meyers in anything I have ever seen him in, but I thought he gave one of the best performances of last year.
