Cloverfield

Posted on 1/29/08 at 5:00 PM | Last edited on 1/29/08 at 4:55 PM

Granted, I went into Cloverfield with low expectations, but I left completely satisfied.

Not only was there just enough monster to make it a monster movie, and just enough action to keep things interesting for over an hour, but there were no eye-rolling feats of yuppie heroism, and no depictions of an all-powerful noble military, and in the end the main character redeems himself after making a really stupid decision early in the movie.

I've never watched "Lost," but I give Abrams a lot of credit for having the guts to make a movie without a cliched Hollywood ending (like the truly awful, God-groveling ending of "I Am Legend.")
