Showing 1 - 1 of 1 Movie Blogs
Saw 1, 2, 3 (and soon to be 4, 5, 6), hostel 1 and 2, the hills have eyes 1 and 2, captivity. All recent movies with the same stradegy to scare people, force them to either projectile vomit, run out the theatre screaming, or on the rare occasion make you think your having a nighmarish good time, wondering what crazy way of mutilating the human body they can think of next. From mutant rape birth porno to cuting off foots with toilet seats, we've seen it all.
Rarely do you see a GOOD horror/suspense flick nowadays with LITTLE or NO gore. Im not saying i dont enjoy a good bloody slasher torture movie every once in a while, but watching movies that are directed like jeffrey dahmer cooks is getting a little old.
BUT, luckily their have been a few recent movies that turn the tables of the newly established genre of horror. Such as 1408, Disturbia, Dead silence, 28 weeks later (on the border, but still less gory then most movies). Those movies, still containing the apparently required gore factor; but not enough to make you lose your theatre popcorn, are just as scary if not scarier then all those movies in which the makes seem to think people are only scared by severed limbs and disgusting mutant rape scenes. The "shock" factor starts to really wear off after a while. So before you lose hope, try seeing a movie in which the scares and suspensful scenes still exist with equal if not better quality, whose goal isnt to make you think: wow that was disgusting im gonna puke my fucking guts out is that legal to show in a film?, but: wow that was really suspensful and fun.
Disturbia is hellafunny and suspensful even with a pre-disney actor, 1408 is a great haunted hotel movie with ghostly scares instead of torturous mutant scares, dead silence is a classic puppet/doll movie even if it was badly made, and 28 weeks later was gory but it was one of the best adreneline pumpers of the year.
Personally i got more enjoyments out being genuiennly scared then genuinnly sick to my stomach.
