ANALYSIS : An ingenius crowd pleaser that flawlessly mixes drama, comedy, romance, and thrills. Great acting, stunning visuals, and a killer soundtrack make this the years little movie that could.
Although it may not be one of the BEST movies ever made, its definately one of the most abosrbing. Slumdog Millionaire follows a young boy named Jamal Malik, raised in the slums of India in a town run by gangs. After Jamal's slum is vicously attacked one day, resulting in his mothers death, he is forced to run away with his brother, where he eventually meets Latika. The movie consists of Jamal being ON Indias "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?", Jamal being interrogated BEFORE the million dollar question, and five to fifteen minute flashbacks that reveal how he knew each answer and how he got to where he is.
Slumdog Millionaire is one of those movies that, no matter what films you like, youll probably like this. It is one of few films to SUCCESSFULLY blend drama, comedy, romance, thrills, etc.
The acting here is close to perfect. Dev Patel, star of the Bristish teen drama Skins (which is great and you should all get around to watching sometime) gives one of the most realistic performances ive seen all year.
Danny Boyle is great as always, but the real star here is the screenplay. The screenplay achieved an amazing achievment, it made a movie as complex and wide open as this make perfect sense and rarely become boring.
In the end, although i think the film is not as deep or meaningful as some people think, i would be insane not to rank it as one of the years best. Great acting, stunning visuals, and a killer soundtrack make this the years little movie that could...and probably will.
