Twenty-third James Bond film and Daniel Craig's third performance as James Bond - for me - one of the best! When you have Javier Bardem as Raoul Silva, the film's antagonist, everything was almost perfect. Outstanding work by the director Sam Mendes following the screenplay by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan. Mendes was approached to direct the film after the release of Quantum of Solace in 2008 (my favourite Bond movie until now) but the development was suspended when MGM encountered financial troubles and the original screenwriter, Peter Morgan, left the project during the suspension. After the resumption in December 2010, Mendes remained attached to the project as a consultant, and when production resumed, Logan, Purvis, and Wade continued writing what became the final version of the script which centres on Bond investigating an attack on MI6 - a part of a plot by former MI6 operative Raoul Silva to humiliate, discredit and kill M as revenge against her for betraying him. He manages in that and this is the last film of the series for Judi Dench, who played M in the previous six films.
After 50 years of the Bond series, which began with Dr. No in 1962, Skyfall was probably the best developed screenplay from the series with its weight and complexity. The film is currently nominated for five Academy Awards, eight British Academy Film Awards and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for Adele's theme song, the film's only nomination at the 2013 ceremony. If you are up for an intelligent full-blooded Bond action full with joyous and compellingly luminous acting - I would recommend this one!

this came and went from our two local theaters so quickly that I missed out seeing this on the big screen (saw Lincoln instead, so I'm not THAT disappointed). I'm sure the film will hold up on the small screen based on your (and other) very favorable reviews.

The greatest Bond film by a good measurement and one of the best films of the year. One of 2012's few great surprises.

Just watched this again yesterday on Blu-ray. I don't like it as much as Casino Royale, which is one of my favorite films of all time, but I loved the transition of the story and the themes at work. Great review again.

Javier Bardem is the best villain yet. Skyfall wouldn't have succeeded without him.
