Will Ferrel and Me.

Posted on 3/3/08 at 4:27 PM | Last edited on 3/3/08 at 4:14 PM

What the hell is with this guy? More over, what is America's fascination with his buffoonery.

Groucho Marx, Laurel and Hardy, Lucy, Airplane, Monty Python,... the list goes on and on. Yet, every year, at about this time, I see another poster with Ferrell's mug underneath another hideous mop of hair, pretending to be some kind of sports star or something to that effect.

See, I don't think ticket prices are high enough; most people will still watch crap, and don't seem to mind giving away hard-earned money in order to do so. Maybe it's closer to the situation with gas prices: $4.00 a gallon almost, yet, still plenty of people on the road. I think this is indicative of the American culture and how it's degenerated over the years (wait, don't stop reading yet) to the point where we're too lazy to demand quality, or we just like the same old things.

Either way, Ferrell's movie tanked on its opening weekend. And, all though he's sold more high-priced movie tickets than I have, atleast I can still say that I saved my money for something better.

Like a fine wine, some movie houses get better with age.

Sitting in a small, older theater somewhere in America and watching a fine film has got to be one of the most satisfying experiences any moviegoer can have. There is something about it. I suppose that more modern movie houses, with their clamour of people and loud video arcades, have their own value in America. But, sometimes, sitting in the dark in front of a 25-five-foot-high, ground level screen with only one hundred seats is all that you need, I think.
