it's been a while since i've written mostly because i haven't been inspired by any of the theatrical releases recently. that being said, i did catch up on a few movies over the last few weeks. i'll write about three of them here.
loved it. refreshingly natural. the opposite of self-conscious. the music was wonderful. while the actors weren't your george clooneys and angelina jolies, there was something about both that were pure, appealing and attractive. the non-hollywood ending was gently bittersweet.
i have to admit, viggo mortensen is one of my very favorite actors. definitely hot. and of course, talented. i thought he was fabulous in this. a tough guy with mysterious depth and tenderness. quite the manly man. you gotta love that. amazing that he can go from dispassionate killer and fighter to the soft, gentle loving man in the brief scene towards the end with naomi watts and the baby. the rest of the acting was excellent as well, though, i really could have done without the excessive violence. it's sad that we're so unaffected by the "standard" violence in movies that it requires a filmmaker like cronenberg to up the ante to have an effect. my only issue with the movie was the abrupt ending. i was like, "what?" i didn't hate it (ala' "no country"), but it felt a bit chopped off (no pun intended).
i've seen 300 before, but decided to see it again. talk about manly men. a whole heap of them. and a gorgeous "manly" woman (so to speak). love her and their relationship! the movie actually cracks me up because i imagine it's the perfect movie for adolescents. kind of a "gladiator" for teens. for the rest of us, it's brainless entertainment with some cool filmmaking.
