So yesterday we had our little pre-Christmas holiday party. It was a small affair, entirely organized by our dear friend Dave, and I got there late because I was working on something for the site. I was exhausted, but the Secret Santa gift exchange worked out nicely, particularly for me.
One of our master photoshoppers, Steve, ended up with me to shop for, and he simply knocked it out of the park. First of all, he got me Elliott Smith's New Moon, which, due to my own laziness, I had yet to pick up (and I'm a huge Elliott Smith fan).
But what was unexpected was the second half of his gift (which, in total, believe it or not, still fell under our $20 limit). I was surprised and elated to discover a DVD 2-pack, containing a couple of John cusack essentials: Grosse Point Blank (76%) and High Fidelity (91%), neither of which, I'm ashamed to say, I've seen.
I know, I know, everyone's seen these movies. Well, I haven't. Call me a loser, but in '97, I was busy trying not to flunk out of my upper div. Milton class, and in 2000, I was trying desperately not to flunk out of "How to Keep Your Girlfriend." I passed one and flunked the other; you figure it out...
Anyway, to paraphrase the wise words that Steve spoke as he handed the gift to me, "I figured if you'd seen them, you'd love them, and if you hadn't, then I'd be doing you a favor." Well, thank you Steve. You are a scholar and a gentleman, and the fact that you have a motorcycle makes you infinitely cooler than me (that wasn't meant to mock you, by the way). I look forward to becoming more acquainted with Mr. Cusack.
