It has been a very busy week here. Aside from being in my new job for 3 weeks, and having no vacation time available to take, Dave's 50th birthday was Friday and Kris' 18th was Sunday.
I usually would have cooked, but that is because I would have taken a day off to plan, cook, and get all my usual weekend stuff done. BUT, since I couldn't pull it all off with just the weekend. I decided to order everything from the deli.
It turned out so great, that I may never cook for family again!! Nah, I'd have to make Kris her stuffed cabbage, she love's that. I ordered sandwich trays, the sandwiches already made, with lettuce and tomato on them. They even threw in little cups of mayo and mustard. I got a nice green sald, and they included two big bottles of dressing, potato salad, which I am very fussy about from deli's, but this was actually good, and an antipasta.
I went to the supermarket and got two trays of precooked meatballs in sauce, dumped them into the crock pot along with a huge bottle of sauce, for a hot selection for the old folks. And I got 2 dozen mini-torpedo rolls from the deli, mmmm so fresh!
And lastly, the cake. Vanilla with vanilla pudding and whipped cream frosting. Nice and light.
Literally all I did was go to the party store, get decorations and plastic ware, and pick up the stuff from the deli and put it on the table. All the food was so excellent. It was worth every penny to do this. Everyone was happy, and I wasn't entirely exhausted with preparations and clean-up.
Kris was going to get a tattoo for her 18th birthday. But after they applied the stencil, she looked at it, on her hip, and decided, she really didn't want a permanent mark. I was happy to be honest.
They were going to set her up to be on the web cam. I told her I wanted the guy to hold up each sterile package to the cam so I could be sure it was done with sterile technique. Then she decided not to consent to the podcast.
My grandmother was all indignant, telling me I should not allow her to do it. I said, she's 18, I can't keep her from it. She said, If she was MY daughter, I'd keep her from it.
So, when Kristy chickened out. I couldn't resist saying to my grandmother, I knew she wouldn't go through with it, which was a total lie, I really thought she would, but I just had to let her think I outwitted her. Grandmom is 88 and a true stubborn Polock, so I guess I should give her a break.
This weekend I have a special surprise for Dave. It's his birthday and Valentine's gift. I am taking him on a mystery trip (to an event of sorts) and he has been trying to figure it out to no end, but I truly have him tricked this time. I am thinking he will really like it. I would tell you, but he may read here, so I don't want to chance it. I'll post an accounting on Sunday.
Happy Valentines Day everyone!!
