Not dreadful, but definitely the worst of the film series. It lacked the originality and fun that made its predecessors so enjoyable during my adolescent years and made it seem more like it was written by somebody on Fanfiction.net as opposed to professional Pixar writers.
On a personal note:
I can honestly say that, other than the 'Harry Potter' franchise, it's one of the most overrated films ever. I often get critisized for my disliking of it, but I can fully argue that I did have a childhood and I do have a heart. I grew up with 'Toy Story'; the first and second were childhood favourites of mine. The third just didn't live up; it was far too overdramatic, and I walked out of that theatre feeling sad and empty. I expect to walk out of 'Inception' feeling that way, not a gosh-darn movie about toys!
My outlook on Pixar used to change a lot, but lately, I've settled on the fact that they're beginning to take themselves too seriously, and their films come across more forced and formulaic than fun, family-friendly entertainment. I noticed it with 'Up', and I've now concluded it with this disappointing release.
Sadly, the world praises it. Well, what do you expect with Disney?
