I've seen a few people do a list like this lately, so I decided that I would go ahead and do it as well. These are the films that I own on DVD (and two on Blu-Ray, even though I don't own a blu-ray player). Note that this collection has been building since I was about ten, so there will probably be several movies I'm not so proud of anymore. I will list them anyway, since I think it shows very well how I've matured as a film lover over the years. So without further ado, here is my collection
A.I. Artificial Intelligence
Like quite a few films on this list, I didn't ask for this one, nor had I seen it when I got it. But it turned out to be a pleasant little surprise, and I still think it's one of Spielberg's underrated gems.
Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker
The first movie I'm not proud of, I blind bought this movie because I loved the books in middle school. The books were kind of like a young James Bond, and accordingly they were thrilling. Unfortunately, this movie is not.
I don't think I need to explain myself. Also one of the two films I have a Blu-Ray of.
Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Complete Book 1 Collection
I apologize to anyone who wasted their time seeing the movie, because now you have a very bad first impression of what I believe to be one of the best animated shows ever made.
Casino Royale & Quantum of Solace
These are the only two Bond films I've seen, and I love them both (though Casino Royale more than Quantum of Solace).
The Cat in the Hat
All I can say is I was 10 and this was one of my first DVDs. Even though I don't really like it that much anymore, it still has this goofy charm that makes it slightly entertaining.
Children of Men
One of my favorite sci-fi movies of all time.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
I loved the books and I loved this movie. It has to be one of the best fantasy movies I saw as a kid.
A lot of people don't like this movie, but I find it entertaining, creepy, and criminally underrated.
Daredevil & Elektra
I lump these two together because they are both somewhat related and both are significantly hated. I personally enjoy both of them as guilty pleasures.
Another one of my favorite sci-fi films, and one of the best movies of the decade.
Batman Begins & The Dark Knight
I love Christopher Nolan and come on, it's effin' Batman!
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Currently my favorite Jim Carrey movie and a very unique romance story.
Facing The Giants
In my review of Fireproof, I said I've been exposed to a lot of manipulative Christian media over the course of my life. Here's one of them. Manipulative, cheesy, boring, and uninspiring, I wish I didn't own this. What can I say, my parents gave it to me.
Another one I wish I didn't own. It's just horrible. I will say this though; two words: Jessica Alba.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Fun Fact: this picture is currently my Facebook profile picture. Another fun fact: this is my favorite comedy of all time.
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
I have not played the game, so I couldn't really understand the story a whole lot. But it does have some wicked cool action in it to keep me entertained, and that's why I own it.
Fringe: Seasons 1 and 2
Boy does J.J. Abrams know how to make great shows. Even though I haven't watched it in a while, this has to be one of my favorite shows currently on TV. It's a shame more people don't watch it.
I was very lucky to find this movie, and it completed my Nolan collection. A must see for true Nolan fans.
Another blind buy. Seriously, though, don't see this movie. It's gotta be my least favorite Nicolas Cage movie and it's one of his worst.
I had poor judgement as a middle schooler.
I'm very nostalgic about this one, and to this day I still find it pretty damn hilarious. This was back when Nickelodeon made good stuff.
I didn't ask for this movie. I asked for I Am Legend. My grandparents got this one instead.
The Haunted Mansion
I thought this was funny when I was little. It's not.
Heroes: Seasons 1 and 2
Seasons 3 and 4 didn't happen. The show ended after the first two, and they were great. Boy, how I wish that was the truth.
I have very fond memories of this one.
This was a very entertaining and well-made book adaptation. Shia Labeouf was actually good here.
Home Improvement: Seasons 1-8
My all-time favorite sitcom.
I Am Legend
I like Will Smith, and I like this movie, bad CGI and all.
The Incredible Hulk
A huge improvement over Ang Lee's film
One of my favorite PIXAR movies.
I'm a Nolan fan, of course I have this movie
This would be the other Blu-Ray I have. I don't think I need to explain myself here.
I've owned this movie for a long time and I still haven't watched it. It just doesn't look very appealing, and the only reason I own it is because it came packaged with another plane-related movie.
Iron Man 1 & 2
Robert Downey Jr. is the man and these movies are pretty badass. Look at that picture. Doesn't it just scream badass?
No, I haven't seen the original. Yes, this movie is three hours long. And yes, I happen to like it. A lot.
Land of the Lost
"So someone gave this to you by mistake, right?" No. I asked for this movie. Because I enjoyed it....Now a lot of you probably dropped your jaw at that. Yes, it's bad, but I think it's intentionally bad and lands in the "So Bad, It's Good" territory. Whichever way, I probably just lost some serious cred on this site.
Left Behind 1 & II: Tribulation Force
More Christian media!!! I didn't ask for these, and they were given to me because I liked the books. But around the time I watched these movies, I realized something: the books are boring. And so are these movies.
Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
Fortunately (pun totally intended) the movie is just as good as the books were. Jim Carrey is fantastic in this movie and I'm sad that they didn't make more movies in this series.
Let Me In & Let the Right One In
Some may consider it blasphemy that I listed the remake first. I don't, because I believe that the remake is superior to the original. Still, I love both and they are both impressive and fantastic films.
Live Free or Die Hard
This movie was my introduction to the character of John McClane. And it was a damn fun one at that.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy
It's motherfucking Lord of the Rings. Must I explain myself?
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
I can't even tell you why I own this movie, I honestly don't know.
The Mask of Zorro
One of my fondest childhood memories.
I won't explain myself. It's just cool and fun and awesome and you get the point.
You knew it would be on here. This is my favorite movie of all time and the single movie that really got me into films. It literally changed the way I look at and watch films today. It also got me obsessed with Nolan.
Men in Black 1 & 2
The first one is hilarious. The second one...meh. I didn't ask for the second one, but it's nice to have it just for completion's sake.
Jack Black in tights is strangely uncomfortable to watch nowadays, but I thought it was funny in middle school.
I still think this is frickin hilarious and it's one of my favorite comedies. Often imitated, but never duplicated. I don't care what you say, I LOVE THIS MOVIE!
One of Nic Cage's few good movies of this decade. Even if it is absurd, it's still fun for me to watch.
No Country for Old Men
One of the best movies I've seen in recent years and it's certainly deserving of its Oscar.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
I don't like this movie. It was given to me. I do not own the first one, which is really the only one I like, but I still have this one. I don't know why.
Another fantastic effort from Nolan with a great story and unexpected twist.
Back when I was little, AMC showed all the Rocky movies for a whole week. And I ate it up like it was a big old bag of Doritos. The following Christmas I was given the entire series, and I still like all of them.
One of the few (and best) horror movies I own and one of the few (and best) foreign movies I've seen.
I happen to enjoy this movie a lot. My whole family went to see it and we all enjoyed it. It is cheesy, but I happen to find it funny.
The Santa Clause 2
I think this is the first DVD I ever got. That doesn't mean it's any good.
The Second Chance
Still more Christian media! I'll tell you this, though. I haven't watched this one either. Nor do I want to.
Smallville: Seasons 1-6
The show started off great. But it progressively got worse and I stopped watching after season 5. Still, the first few seasons are some of my favorite shows of all time.
Spiderman 2 & 3
Spiderman 2 was fantastic, even better than the first one. However, I am not proud to own the third one. I own it because I used to like it. But not anymore.
The Spongebob Squarepants Movie
Oh, Spongebob. How you endlessly entertained me growing up. And how equally entertaining your movie was.
Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over
Another one of my very first DVDs. I loved the first two movies, and this was in 3D. I used to think this was cool. Then again, I also used to think "Who Let the Dogs Out?" was the best song ever.
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
One of the best and most entertaining films of 2010.
I've said before how much I like this movie. I won't tell you again.
The Social Network
Another great 2010 film. It might even win the Oscar.
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Before you freak out, I do actually have the original trilogy, but they are VHS, and this is my DVD collection. Still, I like this one and it's the best of the prequels (though that's not really saying much.).
The only Star Trek movie I've seen or want to see. And it's a damn good one.
Great concept, crappy movie. Still, two words: Jessica Biel (what is it with me and Jessica B's?)
I didn't ask for these either, and no, I haven't watched any of them. But I will soon, probably skipping III and IV.
The sequel can rot in hell. This one, however, is very good and very fun.
2 Fast 2 Furious
I despise this franchise, but I happen to like this movie in particular for whatever reason. It just has a certain charm that works for me.
Oh no! Sam has a movie ranked as one of the worst movies on RT! But really, I was entertained. Messy and nonsensical plot? Yes. Bad special effects? Oh yes. Milla Yovovich in tight skimpy outfits? Hell yes. Milla Yovovich in tight skimpy outfits kicking ass with guns and samurai swords? Fuck yes. Need I say more?
X-Men 1, 2, and The Last Stand
The first two are fantastic. A lot of people despise the third one, but I happen to like it. Really people, it's not that bad. Now X-Men Origins. That was bad.
So, that is my collection. What do you think? Leave me a comment or two.
