On the article: Depp Signs On for Burton's Alice, Disney's Lone Ranger, and More
It's my birthday in 4 days. Do you know what I will wish when I'll blew off the candle on my cake? I will wish that there won't another movie with Johnny Depp made until 2011. But as it seems, it's not going to happen. Depp is on board for Tim Burton's Alice and the Lone Ranger.
I not that I hate Depp. It's a very fine actor. The problem is more that we see him EVERYWHERE. Especially with Tim Burton movies. Since Big Fish, Burton hasn't made one movie in which he doesn't cast Depp. It's not like Tim Burton cannot do excellent movie without him (Burton's best movie, A Nightmare before Christmas, doesn't have Depp).
But the problem is not only that he is in many movie. The real problem is that they cast him for no other reasons than "It's Johnny Depp, dude". For example, Tonto. Tonto is supposed to be a Native American SIDEKICK. His only role is to make the hero cooler. They could surely have chosen a better actor than Depp for that type of role. But no, they when with the star.
Another example? That stupid rumors about Depp being The Riddler in the next Batman. His Depp really suitable for the villain? No. Is Depp the best actor they could afford, schedule and money-wise? No. Is there other actor interested and more suited for that role? Yes (David Tennant, for one) So why do people want Depp? Because it's Jack Sparrow. Because it's Johnny Depp. Nothing Else
In conclusion, Depp is like lobster. Lobster is excellent, but you cannot eat lobster everyday nor with anything.
That's all I had to say about that
