Despite being convoluted, on occasion laughable, and parts of boredom, The Shining succeeds thanks to ingenious direction from Kubrick, the scares that it gave me (remember its 1980) and of course Jack Nicholson. His monologue pretty much sell the movie as he is so full of evil and madness that it is menacing to watch. The boy played by Danny Lloyd is also well acted, however i could've done without the mom, she seems a bit to stereotyped and ditzy for the role. The Shining is not without flaws, but man when the suspense kicks in, especially during the last hour, it is impossible to turn away. And of course the classic line "Here's Johnny!" still made me cringe even though I knew it was coming. It is not without flaws, but The Shining (in 1980) is still way better than some of the shit you see in theaters these days. Thumbs up!
